  1. 1. Integration of Molecular Biology and Morphology in Effusions with Focus on in situ Detection of Telomerase and its Components

    University dissertation from Faculty of Medicine, Lund University

    Author : Nooreldin Zendehrokh; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2007]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Patologi allmän ; pathological anatomy; patologisk anatomi; Diagnostics; Diagnostik; cancer; TRAP in situ; onkologi; Cytologi; cancerology; oncology; Cytology; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; General pathology; Telomerase;

    Abstract : Clinical cytology is a rapid method to detect malignancy in effusions of the serous cavities, but the morphological characteristics of the cells do not always allow diagnosis and a specific marker for malignant cells would improve the diagnostic performance. Telomerase adds telomere repeats to the chromosome ends. READ MORE

  2. 2. Gene Expression Studies of Hematologic Malignacies

    University dissertation from Divison of Clinical Genetics

    Author : Anna Andersson; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2005]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Haematology; extracellular fluids; cancer; onkologi; Cytologi; oncology; Cytology; acute myeloid leukemia; acute lymphoblastic leukemia; normal hematopoietic cells; cDNA microarray; gene expression profiling; hematopoiesis; pediatric leukemia; fusion gene; Pediatrics; Pediatri; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; cancerology; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Abstract : The general aim of this thesis was to characterize hematologic malignancies using gene expression profiling in order to obtain an improved classification and to study deregulated transcriptional networks in leukemia. In the first study (Article I), the gene expression profiles of hematologic cell lines were analyzed to investigate whether such cell lines maintain expression profiles that are characteristic of their primary genetic changes. 3. 3. Studies of radioactive cisplatin (191Pt) for tumour imaging and therapy

    University dissertation from Radiaiton Physics, Malmö University Hospital, SE-205 02 Malmö, Sweden

    Author : Johan Areberg; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2000]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mice; Cytology; in vitro; gamma camera; tumour imaging; platinum pharmacokinetics; cisplatin; radioactive; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer;

    Abstract : A radioactive variant of the cytostatic agent cis-dichlorodiammineplatinum(II), cisplatin, was synthesised from 191PtCl4. The 191Pt-cisplatin was found to be a sterile product of high radionuclide, radiochemical and chemical purity. READ MORE

  4. 4. Human glandular kallikrein 2 (hK2) in prostate cancer: Clinical and Methodological studies

    University dissertation from Department of Laboratory Medicine, Lund University

    Author : Charlotte Becker; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2000]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi; screening; prostate cancer; PSA; Human glandular kallikrein; hK2; Cytology; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer;

    Abstract : Human glandular kallikrein 2 (hK2) is a predominantly prostate produced protein with many similarities to prostate-specific antigen (PSA). Just like for PSA elevated levels of hK2 can be found in men with protate cancer. We created an assay where hK2 in serum could reliably and with negligible cross-reactivity with PSA, be measured down to 0. READ MORE

  5. 5. Head and Neck Cancer: Studies on microvessel density, radiation response and FDG PET

    University dissertation from Department of Oncology, Clinical Sciences, Lund University

    Author : Eva Brun; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2001]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 2-18 fluoro deoxy glucose FDG ; positron emission tomography PET ; radiotherapy; microvessel density; Head and neck cancer; therapy response; Cytology; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer;

    Abstract : Treatment options of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) usually include combinations of radiotherapy and surgery, and in some cases addition of chemotherapy. In locally advanced cases cure rates are low. Current prognostic factors cannot foresee the outcome for the individual patient. READ MORE
