  1. 1. Nanoparticles for multifunctional drug delivery systems

    Author : Jian Qin; Mamoun Muhammed; Paavo K J Kinnunen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; drug delivery; stimuli-sensitive; SPION; PLLA; PNIPAAm; gold; MRI; cytotoxicity; Pluronic; phase transfer; Materials chemistry; Materialkemi;

    Abstract : Multifunctional drug delivery systems incorporated with stimuli-sensitive drug release, magnetic nanoparticles and magnetic resonance (MR) T2 contrast agents is attracting increasing attention recently. In this thesis, works on polymer nanospheres response to temperature change, superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPION)/polymeric composite materials for MR imaging contrast agents are summarized. 2. 2. Ultrasound-assisted Interactions of Natural Killer Cells with Cancer Cells and Solid Tumors

    Author : Athanasia Christakou; Martin Wiklund; Sabeth Verpoorte; KTH; []
    Keywords : Natural killer cell; cytotoxicity; heterogeneity; multiwell microchip; biocompatibility; ultrasonic cell manipulation; 3D cell culture; solid tumor; spheroid; high-resolution imaging; Biologisk fysik; Biological Physics;

    Abstract : In this Thesis, we have developed a microtechnology-based method for culturing and visualizing high numbers of individual cells and cell-cell interactions over extended periods of time. The foundation of the device is a silicon-glass multiwell microplate (also referred as microchip) directly compatible with fluorescence microscopy. READ MORE

  3. 3. Hazard screening of contaminated sites : bioavailable fractions and biological in vitro tools

    Author : Daniel Ragnvaldsson; Mats Tysklind; Per Leffler; Lars Lövgren; Bengt-Erik Bengtsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hazard screening; bioavailability; metal pollution; in vitro cytotoxicity; water extraction; CCA; arsenic genotoxicity; genotoxicity; Contaminated soil; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : The environmental bioavailability of contaminants, rather than their total concentrations in the soil compartment play a decisive role for the risks associated with contaminated sites. Various soil constituents and abiotic conditions have strong influence on bioavailability, which may vary substantially between different locations. READ MORE

  4. 4. In vitro studies of cytostatic drugs and growth factors on leukemic and normal hematopoietic cells : based on in vivo intracellular pharmacokinetics

    Author : Britt Sundman-Engberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ANLL; Normal bone marrow; in vitro; predictive tests; pharmacokinetics; cytostatic drugs; growthfactors;

    Abstract : The aims were to develop, evaluate and apply in vitro methods for cytostatic drug sensitivity, based on intracellular concentrations found after in vivo infusions. The intracellular pharmacokinetics of anthraquinones and ara-C were compared during and after infusion to leukemic patients. Drug concentrations were evaluated with HPLC. READ MORE

  5. 5. Combination chemotherapy for human immunodeficiency virus infection

    Author : Sarah Palmer; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The worldwide spread of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) has spurred the search for effective drugs to combat this deadly virus. The limited effect of monotherapy treatment, in large measure due to the development of drug resistant viral strains, has led to increased emphasis on combination chemotherapy for the treatment of HIV, the focus of this study.
