1. Exploring malaria case mangement of underfive children at households and public primary health care facilities in Kibaha district, Tanzania
Abstract : Background: Chloroquine (CQ) was the first line drug for treating malaria in Tanzania until 2001 when it was replaced with sulfadoxine/pyrimethamine (SP). The first four studies (I -IV) were conducted before the policy change, and the last one (V) after. READ MORE

2. Stereoscopic Label Placement : Reducing Distraction and Ambiguity in Visually Cluttered Displays
Abstract : With increasing information density and complexity, computer displays may become visually cluttered, adversely affecting overall usability. Text labels can significantly add to visual clutter in graphical user interfaces, but are generally kept legible through specific label placement algorithms that seek visual separation of labels and other objects in the 2D view plane. 3. Listening to the story of the rock mass : The integration of conventional and unconventional data to understand rock mass behaviour at the Kiirunavaara Mine
Abstract : The need to understand rock mass behaviour has never been greater; as mining globally progresses deeper to extract the precious resources humankind needs to maintain and forward our lives, we encounter rock behaviours associated with deep mining. These environments typically experience seismicity (including fault slip), rock bursting, strain bursting, spalling, aseismic movement along pre-existing discontinuities, and ground falls. READ MORE

4. Computational Approaches to the Identification and Characterization of Non-Coding RNA Genes
Abstract : Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) have emerged as highly diverse and powerful key players in the cell, the range of capabilities spanning from catalyzing essential processes in all living organisms, e.g. protein synthesis, to being highly specific regulators of gene expression. READ MORE

5. lnterfacial Design and Characterization of Oligo(ethylene glycol) Self-Assembled Monolayers : Templates for Biomolecular Architectures
Abstract : This thesis presents efforts to better understand and control the interfacial properties of oligo(ethylene glycol)-containing self-assembled monolayers (OEG SAMs) on gold. This has been done by means of molecular and interfacial design, followed by extensive characterization of the SAMs using a variety of surface analytical techniques. READ MORE
