  1. 1. Improving the understanding of cloud radiative heating

    Author : Erik Johansson; Abhay Devasthale; Michael Tjernström; Annica M. L. Ekman; Robert Pincus; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; clouds; radiative effects; upper troposphere-lower stratosphere; atmospheric circulation; remote sensing; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : Clouds play an essential role in regulating Earth’s radiation budget by reflecting and absorbing energy at different spectra. As they interact with radiation, they can radiatively heat or cool the adjacent atmosphere and the surface. READ MORE

  2. 2. On the protective value of conspicuous eyespots in Lepidoptera

    Author : Adrian Vallin; Sven Jakobsson; Christer Wiklund; Graeme D. Ruxton; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ethology and behavioural ecology; Etologi och beteendeekologi;

    Abstract : Eyespots, circular patterns which resemble the general appearance of the vertebrate eye, are widespread throughout the animal kingdom and are for example, commonly found on the wings of butterflies where they have been proposed to confer protection against predation. However, empirical evidence of the adaptive value of eyespots, as well as knowledge of butterfly behaviour under the threat of predation, is scarce. READ MORE

  3. 3. Regulatory Control of Autumn Senescence in Populus tremula

    Author : Edlund Erik; Stefan Jansson; Paul Dijkwel; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Aspens; Girdling; Anthocyanins; Arginine; Autumn Senescence; Cytokinins; Populus tremula; Asp; Ringbarkning; Antocyanin; Arginin; Höstlöv; Cytokinin; Populus tremula; Physiological Botany; fysiologisk botanik;

    Abstract : Autumn senescence is a visually spectacular phenomenon in which trees prepare for the oncoming winter. The mechanism for regulation of autumn senescence in trees has been very hard to pinpoint. In this thesis the main focus is to investigate how autumn senescence is regulated in aspens (Populus tremula). READ MORE
