  1. 21. Drugs and polymers in dissolving solid dispersions : NMR imaging and spectroscopy

    Author : Carina Dahlberg; István Furó; Anna Millqvist-Fureby; Michael Schuleit; Jadwiga Tritt-Goc; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi; PHARMACY; FARMACI;

    Abstract : The number of poorly water-soluble drug substances in the pharmaceutical pipeline is increasing, and thereby also the need to design effective drug delivery systems providing high bioavailability. One favourable formulation approach is preparation of solid dispersions, where dispersing a poorly water-soluble drug in a water-soluble polymer matrix improves the dissolution behaviour and the bioavailability of the drug. 2. 22. In silico tools in risk assessment : of industrial chemicals in general and non-dioxin-like PCBs in particular

    Author : Mia Stenberg; Patrik Andersson; Miriam Jacobs; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemometrics; industrial chemicals; in silico tools; molecular descriptors; non-dioxin-like PCBs; partial least-squares PLS ; principal component analysis PCA ; quantitative structure-activity relationship QSAR ; REACH; risk assessment RA ; statistical molecular design; structure-activity relationship SAR ;

    Abstract : Industrial chemicals in European Union produced or imported in volumes above 1 tonne annually, necessitate a registration within REACH. A common problem, concerning these chemicals, is deficient information and lack of data for assessing the hazards posed to human health and the environment. READ MORE

  3. 23. Bias-adjusted analysis of global natural disaster records and an assessment of seismic hazard in Sweden

    Author : Niranjan Joshi; Roland Roberts; Ari Tryggvason; Björn Lund; Kuvvet Atakan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Power-law; Natural-disasters; Seismic-hazard assessment.;

    Abstract : Natural disasters pose significant challenges today and demand efficient allocation of society’s limited resources for disaster risk reduction. This relies on analysis of natural disaster records, which are prone to (reporting) biases that can affect the inferences drawn from their analysis. READ MORE

  4. 24. Integrated Community Energy Systems

    Author : Binod Prasad Koirala; Mehrdad Ghandari; Rudi A. Hakvoort; Reinier Van der Veen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Distributed energy resources; community energy; local energy systems; institutional design; smart grids; energy system integration; community engagement; Energy Technology; Energiteknik; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Energy systems across the globe are going through a radical transformation as a result of technological and institutional changes, depletion of fossil fuel resources, and climate change. Accordingly, local energy initiatives are emerging and increasing number of the business models are focusing on the end-users. READ MORE

    Abstract : The Basal Ganglia consist of a number of different nuclei that form a diverse circuitry of GABAergic, dopaminergic and glutamatergic neurons. This complex network is further organized in subcircuits that govern limbic and motor functions in humans and other vertebrates. READ MORE
