  1. 1. Motility of human polymorphonuclear leukocytes : An image processing approach

    Author : Mikael Gustafsson; Erik Gylfe; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Human polymorphonuclear leukocytes; locomotion; phagocytosis; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; membrane transport; intracellular free calcium; cellular pH; water influx; actin dynamics; digital video microscopy; image processing; fura-2; BCECF; DII; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Cell motility is essential for polymorphonuclear leukocyte (PMN) function in the defense against invading microorganisms and in inflammatory processes. Using digital video microscopy and image processing, individual cells were studied during random locomotion, chemotactic locomotion and phagocytosis. READ MORE

  2. 2. Neural stem cells and their contribution to neurogenesis in the adult mammalian brain

    Author : Stefan Momma; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : For a long time it was believed that neurogenesis in the mammalian central nervous system was restricted to the embryonic and early postnatal period. Almost four decades ago Altman and colleagues challenged this notion, but it took more than thirty years before new studies with refined methods convincingly demonstrated neurogenesis in the adult mammalian brain, including the adult monkey and human brain. 3. 3. Neurogenesis, neural stem cells and nitric oxide in neuroinflammation

    Author : Alexandre I Danilov; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Neurogenesis; neuronal stem cells; nitric oxide; Multiple Sclerosis; EAE; brain trauma;

    Abstract : We investigated whether nitric oxide (NO) is produced in MS patients, determining the concentrations of its oxidation products (NOx) in CSF. The total levels of NOx in CSF were significantly increased in all MS groups as compared to healthy controls and tension headache patients. READ MORE

  4. 4. Development and Test of an Imaging Instrument for Measurement of Water Droplets in Icing Conditions

    Author : Stefani Alita Leona Rydblom; Benny Thörnberg; Aimé Lay-Ekuakille; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Icing measurements; field study; shadowgraph imaging; edge detection; LWC; MVD.;

    Abstract : Structural icing is a persistent challenge for the production of renewable energy from wind. It is mainly caused by supercooled atmospheric droplets of water, which are very common in cold climates. In the most exposed wind parks in Sweden, more than 10 per cent of annual energy production can be lost. READ MORE

  5. 5. Spectroscopic studies of irradiation induced defects in SiC

    Author : Fredrik Carlsson; Peter Deák; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Silicon carbide (SiC) with its applications has the potential to affect the everyday life of most citizens. As a material it has some outstanding properties concerning its mechanical and chemical toughness as well as its electrical properties for high power and high frequency applications. READ MORE
