  1. 1. Physics of Viral Infectivity: Energetics of Genome Ejection

    Author : Meerim Jeembaeva; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microfluidics.; differential scanning calorimetry; capsid; Key words: phage; osmotic suppression; DNA ejection; isothermal titration calorimetry; enthalpy;

    Abstract : All viruses that infect bacteria, plant, or animal cells involve a genome (RNA or DNA) that is encapsidated by a rigid protein shell. After delivery of the viral genome into the host cell, new capsid proteins, which are encoded by viral DNA or RNA, are expressed and self-assembled into new viral capsids. READ MORE

  2. 2. Groove-binding Unsymmetrical Cyanine Dyes for DNA Applications

    Author : Maja Eriksson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polarized spectroscopy; bacteriophage T5; cryo-transmission electron microscopy; dynamic light scattering; DNA; intercalation; cyanine dyes; groove-binding; fluorescence spectroscopy; gel electrophoresis;

    Abstract : This work focuses on interactions between DNA and a group of newly developed unsymmetrical cyanine dyes. The aim of the work was to discover fluorescent dyes that can be used in biophysical studies of natural DNA where minimum perturbation of the DNA-helix is essential, where a slow dissociation rate of the dyes is needed and where the ionic strength is an important parameter. 3. 3. Scattering Studies of Macromolecules in Solution

    Author : David Löf; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bacteriophage lambda; Dynamic Light Scattering; Time-Resolved; Mixed Micelles; Nonionic Surfactant; Triblock Copolymer; Calorimetry; SLS; Rheology; DLS; SAXS;

    Abstract : The sphere-to-rod transition of nonionic micelles of the PEO-PPO-PEO triblock copolymer P123 and the surfactant C12EO6 was studied using dynamic and static light scattering, small angel X-ray scattering, rheology and calorimetry. The transition temperature was dependent of the C12EO6/P123 molar ratio, which means that a larger content of C12EO6 yields a higher transition temperature. READ MORE
