  1. 1. Medium chain dehydrogenases/reductases : alcohol dehydrogenases of novel types

    Author : Annika Norin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Alcohol dehydrogenase; Nicotinoproteins; Structural interpretations; Functional properties; Molecular evolution.;

    Abstract : The medium chain dehydrogenase/reductase (MDR) superfamily is separated into at least eight families, of which the dimeric alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) is one. Including species variants, close to 1000 MDR forms have been characterized. READ MORE

  2. 2. Short-chain retinol dehydrogenases/reductases : Involvement in retinoid metabolism and expression in embryonic and adult mouse

    Author : Paulina Tuvendal; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; -; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; Toxicology; toxikologi;

    Abstract : Retinoids are needed in the embryo to ensure proper development and in the adult forvision, maintenance of epithelia and sperm production. Retinol is oxidised within the cell generating retinal and, irreversibly, retinoic acid. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mechanism of Metabolite transfer between Enzymes in Glycolysis and Connected Pathways

    Author : Wilma Martinez Arias; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Channelling; Free-diffusion; Glycolytic pathway; Dehydrogenases; Enzyme kinetics; Biochemistry; Metabolite transfer mechanism.; Biokemi; Metabolism;

    Abstract : The metabolite produced by one enzyme in a metabolic pathway can be transferred to the next enzyme in the pathway by free diffusion via solution or by channelling in an enzyme-enzyme complex without prior release of the metabolite to solution. While metabolite channelling is known to occur in systems where stable multienzyme complexes form, conflicting views have been expressed as to its existence in pathways involving "soluble" enzymes.
