1. Surface Energy Patterning and Optoelectronic Devices Based on Conjugated Polymers
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis concerns surface energy modification and patterning of the surfaces of conjugated polymers. Goniometry and Wilhelmy Balance techniques were used to evaluate the surface energy or wettability of a polymer’s surface; infrared reflectionabsorption spectroscopy (IRAS) was used to analyse the residuals on the surface as modified by a bare elastomeric stamp poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS). 3. Salting-out of Colloidal Latex Particles Grafted with Poly(ethylene glycol)
Abstract : Colloidal particles dispersed in a medium are important both in nature and in industry. The stability of colloidal particles is determined by the interactions between them and can be improved by steric stabilization. There is no conclusive understanding of how these sterically stabilized particles become unstable. READ MORE

4. Miniaturized cell and flow reactor for QCM-D measurements on fluids and soft matter
Abstract : Thin soft matter films are frequently used in many technical applications, where phenomena taking place in the interfacial regions, control film properties and functionality. In order to optimize the latter there is a clear need of methods and tools for probing diverse physical properties of thin soft matter films confined in a nano-sized region. READ MORE

5. Water-based Flexographic Printing on Polymer-coated Board
Abstract : This doctoral thesis comprises three studies dealing with water-based flexography on polymer-coated boards, which have been presented in the five papers included at the end of the thesis. The first study (covered in three papers) presents results from characterisation of a matrix of water-based inks with respect to their rheology, surface tension, wetting, and fulltone printing performance on PE-coated board.
