  1. 1. Transition Radiation Tracker calibration, searches beyond the Standard Model and multiparticle correlations in ATLAS

    Author : Alejandro Alonso; Partikel- och kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Beyond Standard Model; ATLAS; LHC; Fourth family of quarks; Same-sign top production; Drift tubes; TRT; QCD; Supersymmetry; Inner Detector calibration; Tracking;

    Abstract : This thesis contains two different aspects of my research work towards physics in proton-proton collisions in the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. The first part is focused on the understanding and developing of a calibration system to obtain the best possible charged particle reconstruction in the Transition Radiation Tracker. READ MORE

  2. 2. The importance of waves in space plasmas : Examples from the auroral region and the magnetopause

    Author : Gabriella Stenberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Space and plasma physics; Plasma waves; magnetospheric physics; magnetopause; auroral region; wave distribution function; space exploration; reconnection; current tubes; Rymd- och plasmafysik; Space physics; Rymdfysik; rymdfysik; Space Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis discusses the reasons for space exploration and space science. Space plasma physics is identified as an essential building block to understand the space environment and it is argued that observation and analysis of space plasma waves is an important approach.Space plasma waves are the main actors in many important processes. 3. 3. B-physics potential of the ATLAS experiment and performance of the ATLAS Transition Radiation Tracker

    Author : Chafik Driouichi; Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ATLAS; B-physics; LHC; Bc meson; Elementary particle physics; Transition Radiation Tracker; quantum field theory; Elementarpartikelfysik; kvantfältteori; Fysicumarkivet A:2004:Driouichi;

    Abstract : The ATLAS experiment is one of the four experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), which is supposed to be operational in early 2007. Proton-proton collisions at an unprecedented center-of-mass energy of 14 TeV will probe new frontiers of the universe, hopefully providing a better understanding of the laws governing our universe. 4. 4. Measurement of the Reaction pp→ppπ+π-π0 with CELSIUS/WASA at 1.36 GeV

    Author : Marek Jacewicz; Sven Kullander; Hans Ströher; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik;

    Abstract : A versatile detector setup prepared by the CELSIUS/WASA collaboration for exclusive studies of rare processes produced in proton and deuteron collisions with hydrogen and deuterium pellet targets is presented. For the near-threshold production of light mesons, π0 and η, the scattered beam and target particles are measured in the forward detector, while the products of the decaying mesons are registered in a central detector covering close-to-4π sr. 5. 5. Search for Dark Matter in events with missing transverse momentum and a Higgs boson decaying into bottom quarks with the ATLAS detector

    Author : Eleni Skorda; Partikel- och kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ATLAS; LHC; Beyond the Standard Model; RECAST; Missing transverse momentum; Higgs boson; Bottom quarks; Transition Radiation Tracker; Dark Matter; Fysicumarkivet A:2022:Skorda;

    Abstract : Many astrophysical observations indicate the existence Dark Matter, which is not predicted by the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics. Many theories beyond the Standard Model (BSM) predict new heavy particles called WIMPs (Weakly Interacting Massive Particles). READ MORE
