  1. 1. Vascular Effects of P2 Receptors. Changes in Congestive Heart Failure

    Author : Malin Malmsjö; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; congestive heart failure; pyrimidine; purine; P2 receptor; vasodilatation; vasoconstriction; hyperpolarisation; EDHF; NO; Vascular; endothelium; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Abstract : Extracellular nucleotides induce dilatation and constriction of blood vessels by activation of P2 receptors. In this thesis the vasomotor effects of P2 receptor activation were studied in the rat mesenteric artery, and their changes in congestive heart failure (CHF) were evaluated using in vitro pharmacology, electrophysiology and competitive RT-PCR. 2. 2. A study of potassium channel activation as a pharmacological principle for vasodilation of cerebral blood vessels

    Author : Torsten Ryman; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacological sciences; cerebral arteries; Cerebral ischemia; Potassium channel openers; vascular endothelium; EDHF; KRN2391; KATP; Pinacidil; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Abstract : Increasing [K+]o is intimately coupled to progressive ischemia and reduced CBF. In isolated cerebral and mesenteric arteries, it was found that significant differences in the vascular responses to [K+]o exist. Among the species studied, human cerebral arteries were the most sensitive artery to increasing [K+]o. READ MORE

  3. 3. Novel functions of cardiovascular P2 receptors

    Author : Anna-Karin Wihlborg; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet; mRNA; EDHF; UTP; UDP; ADP; ATP; P2 receptor; contraction; dilatation; endothelial cells; Heart; VSMC;

    Abstract : The aim of the thesis was to examine the expression and function of the extracellular nucleotide P2 receptors in the cardiovascular system. In the cardiovascular system nucleotides are released during shear stress, hypoxia, ischemia, from endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, aggregating platelets, inflammatory cells and erythrocytes. 4. 4. Vasodilator actions of EDHF and anandamide

    Author : David Andersson; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vanilloid receptors; afferent neurons; anandamide; cannabinoids; potassium channels; hyperpolarization; vasodilation; Vascular endothelium; arteries; airways; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Abstract : Vasodilator responses to endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF) and anandamide in isolated arteries were investigated. A combination of the potassium channel blockers charybdotoxin and apamin inhibits EDHF-mediated relaxations. READ MORE

  5. 5. New insights into the control of small artery function in human pregnancy and estrogen receptor beta knockout mice

    Author : Leanid Luksha; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Available data clearly indicates functional and morphological differences between small and large arteries, and observations from studies on large arteries may not be applicable to understand the physiology of small arteries (~200-300mum) that actively participate in the regulation of peripheral vascular resistance, blood pressure and flow to target organs. These events confer cardiovascular adaptation to normal pregnancy (NP), however they are disturbed in preeclampsia (PE) and in estrogen receptor beta knockout (ERbetaKO) mice at a certain age.
