  1. 1. Altered expression of contractile endothelin receptors in the vascular bed

    Author : Mikael Adner; Klinisk och experimentell allergiforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiovascular system; upregulation; transcriptional regulation; smooth muscle cells; plasticity; organ culture; Endothelin; receptor; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Abstract : This thesis aims at characterizing the endothelin (ET) receptors in different vascular beds of man and rat. The ET-A receptor was shown to be the only contractile ET receptor present in all vascular regions, with the exception of the rat mesenteric vein where a weak ET-B receptor-mediated contraction was seen. 2. 2. On receptor changes in cerebral arteries after subarachnoid haemorrhage

    Author : Jacob Hansen-Schwartz; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi; Pharmacological sciences; subarachnoid haemorrhage; reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction; in vitro pharmacology; organ culture; Endothelin receptors; 5-HT receptors;

    Abstract : Overall the aim has been to characterise the in vitro upregulation of the 5-hydroxytryptamine 1B/1D (5-HT(1B/1D)) and endothelin (ET) receptors in the cerebral circulation as well as demonstrating phenotypic changes in a pathophysiological model mimicking subarachnoid haemorrhage. The first part describes receptor upregulation using organ culture of whole vessel segments from both rat and man. READ MORE

  3. 3. Vascular receptor changes in ischemic stroke

    Author : Emelie Stenman; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vascular receptor changes; Ischemic stroke; Endothelin; Angiotensin; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi; toxicology; Farmakologi;

    Abstract : The present thesis aimed to examine how ischemic stroke affects the vascular endothelin and angiotensin systems in cerebral arteries. To study vascular receptor changes in ischemic stroke transient focal ischemia was induced in rats. READ MORE

  4. 4. The role of resting cysts in the survival and succession of freshwater dinoflagellates

    Author : Karin Rengefors; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Biologi; Biology; Biologi; limnologi; Limnology;

    Abstract : Phytoplankton have adapted to survive in the variable and heterogeneous environment that is characteristic of lakes in temperate regions. One strategy for survival during periods unfavorable for growth is to form resting propagules. READ MORE
