1. The Informed Gaze : On the Implications of ICT-Based Surveillance
Abstract : Information and communication technologies are not value-neutral. I examine two domains, public health surveillance and sustainability, in five papers covering: (i) the design and development of a software package for computer-assisted outbreak detection; (ii) a workflow for using simulation models to provide policy advice and a list of challenges for its practice; (iii) an analysis of design documents from three smart home projects presenting intersecting visions of sustainability; (iv) an analysis of EU-financed projects dealing with sustainability and ICT; (v) an analysis of the consequences of design choices when creating surveillance technologies. 2. A comprehensive framework for future broadband policy: Assessing the EU initiative
Abstract : For more than two decades, broadband has been recognized in the EU as having great benefits for economic and social development. This recognition is evident in the first EU policy document on the telecommunications market – the 1987 Green Paper – which assumed that harmonization and liberalization through competition mechanisms could be used as tools to bring all those benefits to European citizens. 3. Security and Privacy of Sensitive Data in Cloud Computing
Abstract : Cloud computing offers the prospect of on-demand, elastic computing, provided as a utility service, and it is revolutionizing many domains of computing. Compared with earlier methods of processing data, cloud computing environments provide significant benefits, such as the availability of automated tools to assemble, connect, configure and reconfigure virtualized resources on demand. 4. Ontology-Driven Data Access and Data Integration with an Application in the Materials Design Domain
Abstract : The Semantic Web aims to make data on the web machine-readable by introducing semantics to the data. Ontologies are one of the critical technologies in the Semantic Web. READ MORE

5. Model‐Based Tool Integration and Ontology‐Driven Traceability in Model‐Based Development Environments
Abstract : The landscape of tools available for model-based development of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs) is vast, encompassing numerous specialized tools designed to support models at the component-level. In reality, the different parts of the system represented by these component-level models are often physically tightly coupled and interdependent, and the models themselves are subject to change and evolve over time.
