  1. 1. Advances in Thermal Insulation : Vacuum Insulation Panels and Thermal Efficiency to Reduce Energy Usage in Buildings

    Author : Thomas Thorsell; Folke Björk; Mark Bomberg; Targo Kalamees; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vacuum insulation panels; VIP; serpentine edge; thermal bridge; composite film; gas diffusion; defect dominated; holistic approach; building enclosure; integrated testing and modeling; energy equivalent; field performance; air flow; thermal insulation efficiency;

    Abstract : We are coming to realize that there is an urgent need to reduce energy usage in buildings and it has to be done in a sustainable way. This thesis focuses on the performance of the building envelope; more precisely thermal performance of walls and super insulation material in the form of vacuum insulation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Arbitrary Waveform Impedance Spectroscopy for Characterization and Diagnostics of High Voltage Insulation

    Author : Björn Sonerud; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; insulation testing; aging; monitoring; discrete Fourier transforms; Dielectric measurements; dielectric materials;

    Abstract : In high voltage engineering the dielectric response technique is a widely used tool both for characterization of insulation materials and for diagnostics of components such as transformers and cables. Currently available techniques are not capable of measuring on-line which would be advantageous; when characterizing a material and evaluating the effect of different voltage magnitudes, waveforms and temperatures it is desirable to be able to observe the continuous development of the dielectric properties. 3. 3. Heat transfer through a well insulated external wooden frame wall : an investigation of the effects of normal defects in the insulation resulting from incident wind and air flow through the wall

    Author : Peter Roots; Avdelningen för Byggnadsfysik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Building construction; Electrical conduits.; Nogging pieces; Airgaps; Breaks in the insulation; Variations in the insulation; Through wind; Forced convection; Incident wind; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : The heat requirement of a building can turn out to be greater than was calculated at the design stage. The reason for this may be that heat transport though the building envelope is greater than expected. This in turn can be due to the structure not fulfilling the design requirements in respect of windtightness and airtightness. READ MORE

  4. 4. Condition Monitoring of Stator Windings with a Networked Electric Drive

    Author : Giovanni Zanuso; Viktória Fodor; Luca Peretti; Antonio Griffo; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Industry 4.0; condition monitoring; multi-drive systems; EtherCAT; CAN; stator interturn faults; stator insulation; accelerated aging.; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Electric drives are widely used in industry, where they are also part of the plant communication architecture. This architecture is challenged by the Industry 4.0 initiative that aims to make the devices in industrial plants more interconnected and with additional functionalities. READ MORE

  5. 5. Simulations of water clustering in vapour, hydrocarbons and polymers

    Author : Erik Johansson; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cluster; gibbs ensemble; monte carlo; water; polyethylene; external field; ions; Energi och material;

    Abstract : It is commonly known that water plays a crucial role in many natural and industrial processes. One of these processes is the formation of water trees, and the subsequent breakdown of polyethylene used for high voltage cable insulation purposes. READ MORE
