    Abstract : Cloud services, which provide online entertainment, enterprise resource management, tax filing, etc., are becoming essential for consumers, businesses, and governments. The key functionalities of such services are provided by backend systems in data centers. This thesis focuses on three fundamental problems related to management of backend systems. READ MORE

  2. 2. Millimeter-wave Networking Fundamental Limits, Scalable Algorithms, and Design Insights

    University dissertation from KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Hossein Shokri-Ghadikolaei; KTH.; KTH.; [2017]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : The current demands for extremely high data rate wireless services and the spectrum scarcity at the sub-6 GHz bands are forcefully motivating the use of the millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequencies. The main characteristics of mmWave communications are severe attenuation, sparse-scattering environment, huge bandwidth, vulnerability to obstacles and antenna misalignment, massive beamforming, and possible noise-limited operation. 3. 3. Learning Stochastic Nonlinear Dynamical Systems Using Non-stationary Linear Predictors

    University dissertation from Stockholm, Sweden : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Mohamed Abdalmoaty; KTH.; [2017]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Stochastic Nonlinear Systems; Nonlinear System Identification; Learning Dynamical Models; Maximum Likelihood; Estimation; Process Disturbance; Prediction Error Method; Non-stationary Linear Predictors; Intractable Likelihood; Latent Variable Models; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : The estimation problem of stochastic nonlinear parametric models is recognized to be very challenging due to the intractability of the likelihood function. Recently, several methods have been developed to approximate the maximum likelihood estimator and the optimal mean-square error predictor using Monte Carlo methods. READ MORE

  4. 4. Privacy-by-Design for Cyber-Physical Systems

    University dissertation from KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Zuxing Li; KTH.; KTH.; [2017]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cyber-physical system; hypothesis testing; information theory; Markov decision process; privacy; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : It is envisioned that future cyber-physical systems will provide a more convenient living and working environment. However, such systems need inevitably to collect and process privacy-sensitive information. That means the benefits come with potential privacy leakage risks. READ MORE
