  1. 1. Contributions to Emission, Exposure and Risk Assessment of Nanomaterials

    University dissertation from Chalmers University of Technology

    Author : Rickard Arvidsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola.; Chalmers University of Technology.; [2012]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Nanomaterials; nanoparticles; emission assessment; exposure assessment; risk assessment; titanium dioxide; silver; graphene; particle flow analysis; substance flow analysis.;

    Abstract : In recent years, synthetic nanomaterials have begun to be produced and used in increasingly larger volumes. These materials may cause new or increased risks to the environment, but no harmonized methods for structured assessment of their environmental risks exist. READ MORE

  2. 2. Improved environmental assessment in the development of wood-based products: Capturing impacts of forestry and uncertainties of future product systems

    University dissertation from Chalmers University of Technology

    Author : Gustav A. Sandin; Chalmers tekniska högskola.; Chalmers University of Technology.; [2013]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; product development; environmental assessment; sustainability assessment; land use; water use; impact assessment; end-of-life modelling; scenario modelling; wood; forestry;

    Abstract : The prospect of reducing environmental impacts is a key driver for the development of new wood-based products. But as wood-based products are not necessarily environmentally superior to non-wood alternatives, there is a need to assess the environmental impact of the product and guide the development process. 3. 3. Managing high environmental performance? Applying life cycle approaches and environmental certification tools in the building and real estate sectors

    University dissertation from Stockholm, Sweden : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Nils W. O. Brown; KTH.; [2017]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Buildings; operational energy use; life cycle assessment; environmental certification; environmental assessment; renovation; strategy; design process; value creation; embodied environmental impacts; Planering och beslutsanalys; Planning and Decision Analysis;

    Abstract : The main aim of this thesis is  to demonstrate and critically assess life cycle approaches’ and environmental certification (EC) tools’ potential for supporting decisions for improved environmental performance in the building and real estate sectors.Using life cycle approaches, the thesis shows that for new build and renovation cases aiming for low operational energy use that embodied global warming potential (GWP) due to material production can constitute a large portion of a building’s lifetime GWP. Abstract : Textile products are used by almost everybody throughout the world, fulfilling basic human needs such as keeping us warm and contributing to our social position. Every year the global textile industry delivers close to 100 million metric tonnes of new products to the market. READ MORE

  5. 5. Environmental risk assessment of shipwrecks – Model development and application

    University dissertation from Chalmers University of Technology

    Author : Hanna Landquist; Chalmers tekniska högskola.; Chalmers University of Technology.; [2016]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; environmental risk assessment; decision support; shipwreck; fault tree analysis; Bayesian updating;

    Abstract : Potentially polluting shipwrecks containing oil or other hazardous substances pose a threat to the marine environment. This is a global problem and many shipwrecks stem from the Second World War having been deteriorating on the sea floor since then. Only in Swedish waters more than 300 wrecks are estimated to pose an environmental threat. READ MORE
