  1. 1. Assessing design strategies for improved life cycle environmental performance of vehicles

    Author : Sofia Poulikidou; Anna Björklund; Per Wennhage; Gregory Keoleian; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vehicle design; Design strategies; Lightweight design; Electric vehicles; Design for Environment DfE ; DfE tools; Life cycle assessment LCA ; Simplified LCA; Composite materials; Planering och beslutsanalys; Planning and Decision Analysis;

    Abstract : Vehicle manufactures have adopted different strategies for improving the environmental performance of their fleet including lightweight design and alternative drivetrains such as EVs. Both strategies reduce energy during use but may result in a relative increase of the impact during other stages. READ MORE

  2. 2. GETTING MORE OUT OF THE AFTERLIFE

    Author : Derek Diener; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MFA; remanufacturing; steel; company-level; Product EoL management; material efficiency;

    Abstract : Material intensity related to product consumption has become part of societal discourse and reducing it has become a priority of some industrial actors. Focusing on product end-of-life (EoL) is one approach that many companies and research entities have taken to identify and enact material intensity reductions. READ MORE

  3. 3. Environmental fate of chemicals released from consumer products : Multimedia modelling strategies

    Author : Anna Palm Cousins; Michael McLachlan; Antonio Di Guardo; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Multimedia fate model; urban model; PBDEs; phthalate esters; indoor environment; emissions; exposure; BDE 209; DINP; DEHP; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis was to assess the environmental fate and transport of chemicals emitted from consumer products through the development and application of modelling tools. The following hypotheses were tested: i) Multimedia fate models can be applied in a multistage assessment process to emerging chemicals when limited knowledge exists to identify the likely environmental fate and to direct further research; ii) the indoor environment acts as a source of anthropogenic substances in consumer products to the outdoor environment; and iii) chemical removal pathways in the indoor environment are important for the fate of organic chemicals in densely populated areas. 4. 4. Concentrate or dilute contaminants? : Strategies for Swedish wood waste

    Author : Joakim Krook; Anders Mårtensson; Stefan Anderberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Management strategies; environmental aspects; heavy metals; separation; regulation; market interactions; actors; avfall; miljö; sortering; föroreningar; tungmetaller; impregnerat trä; styrmedel; kundkrav; lagstiftning; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis aims to assess the environmental consequences of management strategies for wood waste in Sweden. There is a special focus on separation strategies and in what way such measures influence environmental aspects such as the presence of heavy metals in the waste. READ MORE

  5. 5. Repair or replace? Guidance from indicators and life cycle assessment on circular economy strategies for energy-using products

    Author : Adeline Jerome; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; use extension; indicator; environmental assessment; life cycle assessment; circular economy;

    Abstract : Various circular economy (CE) strategies, such as use extension with repair or reuse, have been suggested as a means for addressing the increasing resource and environmental footprint of society. To identify effective CE strategies, companies or policy makers seek guidance from the evaluation of resource use and environmental impact of alternatives that introduce different CE strategies to product systems.
