1. Functional and Phenotypic Studies of Eosinophilic Granulocytes in Patients with Eosinophilic Esophagitis
Abstract : Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic inflammatory disorder of unknown etiology, in which the esophagus is infiltrated by eosinophils and T cells. Topical corticosteroids are one of the treatment options for patients with EoE. The function of eosinophils in EoE is unknown, here we hypothesize that eosinophils serve as immunoregulatory cells. 2. Type 2 Cystatins. Studies on the role of the major cystatin, cystatin C, in mice and on properties and distribution of the novel human cystatins F, G, H and I
Abstract : The aim the thesis work was to study the human cystatins C, E/M, F, G, H and I both in vivo and in vitro. A mouse devoid of cystatin C was used for the cystatin C studies. The levels of cystatins C, E/M and F were measured in pleural effusion samples of patients with various lung disorders. READ MORE

3. Bystander Cells and Prognosis in Hodgkin Lymphoma
Abstract : Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) is characterised histologically by a minority of malignant Hodgkin and Reed-Sternberg (HRS) cells surrounded by benign cells, and clinically by a relatively good prognosis. The treatment, however, leads to a risk of serious side effects. READ MORE

4. Human eosinophils and their activation by allergens via danger signal receptors
Abstract : Human eosinophilic granulocytes are polymorphonuclear cells with a powerful arsenal of cytotoxic substances in their granules, which are mainly found in the gastrointestinal mucosa, and the respiratory and genitourinary tracts. Their physiological role is incompletely understood, although it is likely they protect the mucosal surfaces, perhaps by recognizing danger signals present on microorganisms or released from damaged tissue. 5. Activation of human eosinophils by exogenous danger signals
Abstract : Eosinophilic granulocytes are leukocytes that reside in the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts. Their function in health is unknown. READ MORE
