1. Boundary Conditions for Spectral Simulations of Atmospheric Boundary Layers
Abstract : An atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) is generally a very high Reynolds number boundary layer over a fully rough surface that is influenced by different external forces. Numerical simulations of ABLs are typically demanding, particularly due to the high Reynolds numbers. READ MORE

2. Depression in older people with and without dementia : non-pharmacological interventions and associations between psychotropic drugs and mortality
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate associations between psychotropic drug use and death, associations between functional capacity, dependency in ADL and depression, and to evaluate a non-pharmacological intervention to reduce depressive symptoms, among older people with and without dementia. There is limited knowledge about the risk of death associated with psychotropic drug use among those aged ≥85 years, those with dementia, or those living in residential care facilities; groups that have a higher intake of psychotropic drugs and who are also more prone to adverse drug reactions. 3. Modeling the influence of magnesium from alternative raw materials on the chemistry of Portland cement clinker
Abstract : The methods used in this thesis work were a combination of computational and modeling based laboratory experiments.Thermodynamic process modeling of the cement clinker process offers a tool for evaluating how changes in raw materials and process parameters affect the clinker quality. 4. Attached Bacterial Communities in Lakes – Habitat-Specific Differences
Abstract : For many years, the importance of microorganisms attached to surfaces in littoral zones and wetlands has been disregarded when describing aquatic ecosystem dynamics. Supporting evidence is scarce but convincing that these microbial communities are not only very productive but can often serve as major regulators of nutrient and carbon dynamics in many freshwaters. 5. Co-firing complex biomass in a CFB boiler : ash transformation, corrosion control and materials selection
Abstract : The effects of greenhouse gas net emissions on global warming, stricter legislation on waste handling, and the pursuit of ever cheaper heat- and power production are all important factors driving the introduction of complex fuels in incineration plants. However - without fundamental knowledge regarding ash transformation, corrosion control, and materials selection – this introduction of potentially economically and environmentally beneficial fuels, might instead cause economic loss and environmentally adverse effects.
