  1. 1. Unraveling the importance of solid and adsorbed phase mercury speciation for methylmercury formation, evasion and bioaccumulation

    Author : Sofi Jonsson; Erik Björn; Ulf Skyllberg; Erik Lundberg; Per Persson; Robert Mason; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mercury; methylmercury; aquatic systems; estuary; Hg; MeHg; bioaccumulation; methylation; demethylation; evasion; sediment; water; terrestrial sources; atmospheric sources; climate change; eutrophication;

    Abstract : Monomethylmercury, MeHg, is formed under anoxic conditions in waters, sediments and soils and then bioaccumulated and biomagnified in aquatic food webs, negatively effecting both human and wildlife health. It is generally accepted that precipitation of mercury, Hg, and adsorption of Hg to e.g. READ MORE

  2. 2. Redefining the essential molecular aspects that drive interactions between small molecules and G-quadruplex DNA

    Author : Måns Andréasson; Erik Chorell; Anna Linusson Jonsson; Jan Kihlberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; G-Quadruplexes; DNA; Oncogenes; G4 ligands; heterocycles; macrocycles; organic synthesis; molecular interactions; rational compound design; medicinal chemistry.; medicinal chemistry; läkemedelskemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : G-Quadruplex (G4) structures are secondary nucleic acid structures located in guanine-rich regions of DNA and RNA sequences, involved in gene regulation and cellular maintenance. Efforts to target G4s in a therapeutic setting are scarce, mainly due to vague details about the binding interactions between the ligands and the G4 structure combined with the lack of emphasis on drug-like properties early in the ligand development process. 3. 3. Fissure-hosted mineral formation and metallogenesis in the Långban Fe-Mn-(Ba-As-Pb-Sb...) deposit, Bergslagen, Sweden

    Author : Erik Jonsson; Ulf Hålenius; Tom Andersen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mineralogi; geologi; isotopgeokemi; mineraldiversitet; malmbildning; Palaeoproterozoikum; Bergslagen; Sverige; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Abstract : The Långban deposit in the Bergslagen ore province is one of the most mineral-rich and complex localities on Earth. Yet, despite more than 100 years of research, much about its origin and evolution has remained unknown. READ MORE

  4. 4. Bioactive Compounds in the Chemical Defence of Marine Sponges : Structure-Activity Relationships and Pharmacological Targets

    Author : Erik Hedner; Lars Bohlin; Per R Jonsson; Raffaele Riccio; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Pharmacognosy; 5-hydroxytryptamine; agelasine; agelasimine; antibacterial; antifouling; barettin; bromobenzisoxazolone barettin; cytotoxic; marine; secondary metabolite; sponge; Farmakognosi; Agelas; Geodia barretti;

    Abstract : Marine invertebrates, in particular sponges, represent a source of a wide range of secondary metabolites, many of which have been attributed various defensive capabilities against environmental stress factors. In this thesis sponge-derived low-molecular peptide-like compounds and associated analogs are investigated for bioactivity and pharmacological targets. READ MORE

  5. 5. Implementation of Flash Analog-to-Digital Converters in Silicon-on-Insulator Technology

    Author : Erik Säll; Mark Vesterbacka; Bengt E. Jonsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; flash analog-to-digital converter; ADC; silicon-on-insulator; SOI; top-down design; dynamic element matching; DEM; thermometer-to-binary encoder; flash ADC modeling; Electronics; Elektronik;

    Abstract : High speed analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) used in, e.g., read channel and ultra wideband (UWB) applications are often based on a flash topology. The read channel applications is the intended application of this work, where a part of the work covers the design of two different types of 6-bit flash ADCs. READ MORE
