  1. 1. System studies of Anaerobic Co-digestion Processes

    Author : Eva Nordlander; Jinyue Yan; Eva Thorin; Krist Gernaey; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : Production of biogas through anaerobic digestion is one pathway to achieving the European Union (EU) goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing the share of renewable energy, and improving energy efficiency. In this thesis, two different models (Anaerobic Digestion Model No. READ MORE

  2. 2. Working conditions and musculoskeletal disorders in flight baggage handling

    Author : Eva L Bergsten; Svend Erik Mathiassen; Eva Vingård; Lydia Kwak; Margareta Nordin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epidemiology; low back pain; shoulder pain; physical exposures; psychosocial exposures; inclinometry; implementation; process evaluation; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; Arbets- och miljömedicin; Health-Promoting Work;

    Abstract : Introduction: Baggage handling is considered to be a heavy manual handling job including biomechanical exposures suspected of increasing the risk for musculoskeletal disorders. Aims: To document low back pain (LBP), shoulder pain (SP), and physical and psychosocial factors in baggage handlers, and to evaluate the implementation of an ergonomic intervention aiming to increase the use of loading assist devices. 3. 3. Treatment of cardiovascular risk factors in type 2 diabetes : time trends and clinical practice

    Author : Eva Fhärm; Olov Rolandsson; Eva Johansson; Lars Weinehall; Carl-Johan Östgren; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : diabetes mellitus; cardiovascular disease; effectiveness; epidemiology; guideline adherence; primary health care; risk factor;

    Abstract : Objectives Patients with type 2 diabetes are at much greater risk of developing cardiovascular diseases (CVD), including coronary heart disease (CHD), compared to non-diabetics. The lowering of glucose, blood pressure, and plasma lipid levels has been shown to reduce CHD risk, and treatment goals for these risk factors are now part of clinical practice guidelines. READ MORE

  4. 4. Somatostatin Receptor Expression and Biological Functions in Endocrine Pancreatic Cells

    Author : Eva Ludvigsen; Stellan Sandler; Eva Tiensuu Janson; Mats Stridsberg; Frank Sundler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell biology; somatostatin; somatostatin receptors; somatostatin analogues; NOD mouse; type 1 diabetes; pancreatic islets; BON-1 cells; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Type 1 diabetes is resulting from the selective destruction of insulin-producing beta-cells within the pancreatic islets. Somatostatin acts as an inhibitor of hormone secretion through specific receptors (sst1-5). READ MORE

  5. 5. Noninvasive Evaluation of Myocardial Ischemia and Left Ventricular Function

    Author : Eva Maret; Jan Ohlsson; Eva Nylander; Anders Waldenström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The general aim of this thesis was, following the path of the ischemic cascade, to evaluate the feasibility of some new non-invasive techniques for the detection of myocardial ischemia, the extent of infarcted myocardium, and for the quantification of systolic left ventricular function.Reduced longitudinal myocardial velocity and displacement may be early signs of ischemia.
