  1. 1. Chartist trading in exchange rate theory

    Author : Carina Selander; Karl-Gustaf Löfgren; Anders Vredin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Chartist Trading; Foreign Exchange; Overshooting; Sterilized Intervention; Target Zone; Taylor Rules; Economics; Nationalekonomi;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of four papers, of which paper 1 and 4 are co-written with Mikael Bask. Paper [1] implements chartists trading in a sticky-price monetary model for determining the exchange rate. It is demonstrated that chartists cause the exchange rate to "overshoot the overshooting equilibrium" of a sticky-price monetary model. READ MORE

  2. 2. Nonlocal Correlations in Density Functional Theory

    Author : Henrik Rydberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bonding; GGA; adhesion; graphene; DFT; exchange; adsorption; LDA; first principles; polarization; vdW; determinants; correlation; graphite; surface states; van der Waals; density-functional theory; physisorption; nonlocal; functional;

    Abstract : In Density Functional Theory, the widely used local and semilocal approximations to the exchange-correlation energy, the local density approximation (LDA) and the generalized gradient approximations (GGAs), lack a physical description of truly nonlocal correlation effects, which are absolutely essential for a proper description of soft matter. A scheme is proposed that provides a basis for systematic improvements beyond LDA and GGA, including correlations at intermediate and long range, giving rise to bonds of pure van der Waals type as well as more intricate, intermediate-range correlation bonds. Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to enhance our understanding of Swedish marine insurers' choices of business strategies under the potentially difficult business circumstances of the interwar period 1918-1939. Little previous research exists on marine insurance during the interwar period. READ MORE

  4. 4. Information exchange in paediatric care

    Author : Eva Mårtenson Wikström; Carina Berterö; Astrid Fägerskiöld; Karin Anna Petersen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Ethical demand; Grounded theory; Information exchange; Paediatric care; Qualitative content analysis; Simultaneous concept analysis; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Information exchange is an essential component for all involved in the paediatric care encounter. Despite this, most of the research about information exchange concerns adults and the significance of the child’s existence in the encounter have not been given sufficient attention. Therefore, the overall aims of this thesis were twofold. READ MORE

  5. 5. Spin ice and demagnetising theory

    Author : Mikael Twengström; Patrik Henelius; Peter Holdsworth; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geometrical frustration; spin ice; Monte Carlo simulations; demagnetising theory; special temperatures; Ewald summation; neutron scattering; structure factors; loop algorithms; parallel tempering; frustrated ferromagnets; equilibration issues; long-range interactions; exchange interactions.; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Frustration, or the inability to simultaneously minimise all local interactions is, a phenomenon occurring in a broad number of physical systems. We will in this thesis focus on a class of frustrated ferromagnetic materials called spin ices and how both numerical and experimental techniques can be used to understand their properties. READ MORE
