  1. 1. In vivo quantification of extrastriatal dopamine D2 receptors in the human brain

    Author : Hans Olsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : FLB 457; positron emission tomography; pituitary; receptor density; affinity; benzamide; Scatchard; saturation; receptor occupancy;

    Abstract : The dopamine D2 receptor subtype attracts considerable attention in research on the patophysiology and drug treatment of several neuropsychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia and Parkinson's disease. The brain imaging technology Positron Emission Tomography (PET) has since long allowed for reliable quantification of the high density of dopamine D2 receptors in large brain structures such as the neostriatum. 2. 2. Clinical molecular imaging of schizophrenia

    Author : Mirjam Talvik; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : PET; D2 D3 receptors; 5HT2A receptors; antipsychotic drugs; schizophrenia; age effects; raclopride; FLB 457; M100907; clozapine; haloperidol; perphenazine; thalamus; cortex; striatum; PANSS;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to examine pathophysiology and antipsychotic treatment of schizophrenia by using positron emission tomography (PET). The high affinity radioligand [11C]FLB 457 was used for determination of dopamine D2 receptor binding in the thalamus and the cortex of nine drug-naïve patients with schizophrenia and eight control subjects. 3. 3. A PET study on dopamine and serotonin receptor binding in the primate brain : challenges with antipsychotic drugs and amphetamine

    Author : Yuan-Hwa Chou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The brain imaging technique positron emission tomography (PET) has been applied to study dopamine and serotonin neurotransmission. In schizophrenia research, an important observation is that patients with schizophrenia, when compared with controls, have higher amphetamine induced dopamine release in the striatum. READ MORE

  4. 4. Catecholaminergic neurotransmission in heart and brain : development of tracers for positron emission tomography

    Author : Claus Oliver Langer; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : PET; Radioligand; Catecholamine; Norepinephrine; Dopamine; Heart; Brain; Metaraminol; Dopamine D2 Receptor;

    Abstract : The catecholamines norepinephrine and its biosynthetic precursor dopamine are two principal neurotransmitters in the human central nervous system (CNS). Moreover, norepinephrine is a major transmitter substance in the peripheral, autonomic nervous system. READ MORE

  5. 5. Methological advances in the examination of the dopamine system in brain

    Author : Judit Sóvágó; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Dopamine-D2 D3 receptors; brain; [35S]GTPgS binding autoradiography; positron emission tomography; partial volume effect;

    Abstract : The dopamine (DA) system in brain has attracted considerable attention in neuroscience due to its involvement in fundamental brain functions and its postulated role in the pathophysiology of several neuropsychiatric disorders. Radioligand binding techniques in vitro and in vivo, such as receptor binding autoradiography and positron emission tomography (PET) have substantially contributed to our understanding of the DA system.
