  1. 1. Fluidized bed combustion - modeling and mixing

    Author : David Pallarès; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fluidized bed combustion; Mixing; Modeling;

    Abstract : First demonstrated on industrial scale in 1976, fluidized bed combustion (FBC) rapidly became an established technology for solid fuel combustion with a currentinstalled capacity of about 30 GWe and power plants ranging from 10 to 460 MWe.The widespread use of the FBC technology both under so-called circulating and bubbling conditions (i.e. READ MORE

  2. 2. Nitrous Oxide Emission from Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustion

    Author : Lars-Erik Åmand; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; air supply dependence; fluidized beds; homogeneous heterogeneous reactions; fluidized-bed boilers; bed temperature dependence; N2O emissions; circulating fluidized-bed boilers; gas-concentration profiles;

    Abstract : In the present thesis N2O results are presented from several measurement projects on two commercial circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boilers. Traditional parameter studies have been carried out, as well as test programs where various nitrogen-containing species were injected into the furnace or gas-concentration profiles in the combustion chamber were measured. 3. 3. Reduction of the N2O Emission from Fluidized Bed Combustion by Afterburning

    Author : Lennart Gustavsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; chemical modelling; fuel injection; nitrous oxide; fluidized bed combustion; fluidized beds; afterburning; homogeneous heterogeneous reactions; N2O reduction; fluidized bed boiler; N2O emissions;

    Abstract : A method for reducing N2O emissions from fluidized bed combustion is presented and investigated. In contrast to flame combustion, fluidized bed combustion generates significant amounts of nitrous oxide (N2O) which are emitted to the atmosphere. READ MORE

  4. 4. Ash Behavior in Fluidized-Bed Combustion and Gasification of Biomass and Waste Fuels : Experimental and Modeling Approach

    Author : Farzad Moradian; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fluidized-bed; combustion; gasification; waste-derived fuels; biomass; ash-related problems; deposit; fouling; slagging; bed agglomeration; thermodynamic equilibrium modeling;

    Abstract : Over the past few decades, a growing interest in the thermal conversion of alternative fuels such as biomass and waste-derived fuels has been observed among the energy-producing companies. Apart from meeting the increasing demand for sustainable heat and power production, other advantages such as reducing global warming and ameliorating landfilling issues have been identified. 5. 5. Solids Flow Pattern in Circulating Fluidized-bed Boilers

    Author : Andreas Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; scale-up; hydrodynamics; combustion; loop seal; wall-layers; Circulating Fluidized Bed;

    Abstract : The background of this dissertation is the knowledge of circulating fluidized bed (CFB)technology, which has reached a level enabling units of several hundred megawatts ofelectricity to be constructed and employed. Yet an improved understanding of the technologyis needed in order to further develop and optimize large-scale combustion in CFB boilers,especially since the operating conditions and the geometries of large boilers differ from thosetypical for laboratory units, in which most of the research hitherto has been performed.
