  1. 1. Breast tomosynthesis – new perspectives on breast cancer screening

    Author : Kristina Lång; Malmö Diagnostisk radiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Breast cancer; Breast tomosynthesis; Mammography; Breast cancer screening; Cancer detection rate; Recall rate; False positive rate; Image perception; Reading time; Lesion visualisation; Detection error;

    Abstract : Abstract: Mammography is currently the established method in breast cancer screening, although the sensitivity is known be affected by overlapping tissue concealing tumours. Breast tomosynthesis takes advantage of multiple exposures at different angles reducing the negative effect of obscuring tissue. READ MORE

  2. 2. Tuberculosis case finding in HIV-positive adults receiving care at health centres in Ethiopia

    Author : Taye Balcha; Enheten för infektionssjukdomar; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; HIV; Case detection; Treatment outcome; Health centres; Ethiopia.;

    Abstract : Rapid, accurate diagnosis and management of TB in HIV-positive individuals is critical for the success of antiretroviral treatment programmes in primary health care in Sub-Saharan Africa. These studies aim to develop and evaluate methods for TB case finding in adults receiving care at Ethiopian health centres. READ MORE

  3. 3. Investigations of Flow Patterns in Ventilated Rooms Using Particle Image Velocimetry : Applications in a Scaled Room with Rapidly Varying Inflow and over a Wall-Mounted Radiator

    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Particle Image Velocimetry PIV ; experimental study; structured light 3D scanning system; ventilation; varying flow rate; room model; wall-mounted radiator; air; water; flow; Particle Image Velocimetry PIV ; experimentell studie; scanningsystem för strukturerat 3D-ljus; ventilation; varierande tilluftsflöde; rumsmodell; väggmonterad radiator; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis introduces and describes a new experimental setup for examining the effects of pulsating inflow to a ventilated enclosure. The study aimed to test the hypothesis that a pulsating inflow has potential to improve ventilation quality by reducing the stagnation zones through enhanced mixing. READ MORE

  4. 4. Interval cancers, positive predictive value for malignance and other early quality indicators in mammographic screening for breast cancer

    Author : Bedrich Vitak; Ingvar Andersson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Mammography; Breast neoplasm; Breast cancer screening; Interval breast cancer; Metastasis; Mortality; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The study was designed to evaluate early quality indicators in screening for breast cancer. lt comprised, (i) investigations of compliance, recall, referral, cancer detection, and interval cancer rates in the Östergötland screening programme of women aged 40-74 years; (ii) evaluation of the three-stage diagnostic procedure for pre-operative assessment of women with suspicious mammographic findings; (iii) comprehensive analysis of all invasive interval cancers detected; and (iv) investigation into how to reduce the number of interval cancers without a concomitant increase in false positives. 5. 5. Prenatal diagnosis in routine antenatal care : a randomised controlled trial

    Author : Sissel Saltvedt; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Ultrasound; fetal ultrasonography; Down s syndrome; chromosomal disorder; nuchal translucency; genetic screening; prenatal diagnosis; abnormalities; gestational age; in vitro fertilization; fetometry; dating formulas; false positive reactions; anxiety;

    Abstract : Nuchal translucency (NT) measurement combined with maternal age has been shown to identify women at an increased risk of carrying a fetus with Down's syndrome (DS) more accurately than does maternal age alone. The aim of this study was to evaluate more widely the effects of two different strategies for prenatal diagnosis. READ MORE
