1. Estimation of Forest Biomass and Faraday Rotation using Ultra High Frequency Synthetic Aperture Radar
Abstract : Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data in the Ultra High Frequency (UHF; 300 MHz – 3 GHz)) band have been shown to be strongly dependent of forest biomass, which is a poorly estimated variable in the global carbon cycle. In this thesis UHF-band SAR data from the fairly flat hemiboreal test site Remningstorp in southern Sweden were analysed. READ MORE

2. Estimation of Forest Biomass and Faraday Rotation Using Polarimetric L-/P-band SAR
Abstract : At present the greatest source of uncertainty in the global carbon cycle is in the terrestrialecosystems. In order to reduce these uncertainties it is necessary to provide consistent andaccurate global estimates of the biomass contained in the forests of the world. READ MORE

3. Bismuth iron garnet films for magneto-optical photonic crystals
Abstract : The thesis explores preparation and properties of bismuthiron garnet (BIG) films and the incorporation of BIG films intoone-dimensional magneto-optical photonic crystals (MOPCs). Films were prepared by pulsed laser deposition. READ MORE

4. On ferromagnetic thin films and two-dimensional magneto-optic photonic crystals
Abstract : This thesis presents results in two different neighboring areas of research: the magnetic properties of thin ferrite films and the application of the films in two-dimensional photonic crystals. In the first part, we investigate the accuracy of the customary method for determining the magnetic anisotropy constants of ferrite films by ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) experiment. 5. Complex Oxide Photonic Crystals
Abstract : Microphotonics has been offering a body of ideas to prospective applicationsin optics. Among those, the concept of photonic integrated circuits (PIC’s) has recently spurred a substantial excitement into the scientific community. Relisation of the PIC’s becomes feasible as the size shrinkage of the optical elements is accomplished. READ MORE
