1. Design and Synthesis of Hepatitis C Virus NS3 Protease Inhibitors : Targeting Different Genotypes and Drug-Resistant Variants
Abstract : Since the first approved hepatitis C virus (HCV) NS3 protease inhibitors in 2011, numerous direct acting antivirals (DAAs) have reached late stages of clinical trials. Today, several combination therapies, based on different DAAs, with or without the need of pegylated interferon-α injection, are available for chronic HCV infections. READ MORE

2. Exploring Palladium-Mediated 11C/12C-Carbonylation Reactions : PET Tracer Development Targeting the Vesicular Acetylcholine Transporter
Abstract : The work presented herein describes the utilization and exploration of palladium-mediated incorporations of carbon monoxide and/or [11C]carbon monoxide into compounds and structural motifs with biological relevance. The first part of the thesis describes the design, synthesis and 11C-labeling of prospective PET tracers for the vesicular acetylcholine transporter (VAChT), a target affected in several neurodegenerative diseases. 3. Chiral Separation of Amines by Non-Aqueous Capillary Electrophoresis using Low Molecular Weight Selectors
Abstract : Three chiral selectors (diketogulonic acid, benzoxycarbonylglycylproline and ketopinic acid) have been introduced for enantioseparation of pharmacologically active amines in non-aqueous capillary electrophoresis. The use of organic solvents, instead of aqueous buffers in the background electrolyte facilitated ion-pair formation between the analytes and the chiral selectors. READ MORE

4. Capillary electrophoresis mass spectrometry applied to structural proteomics and small molecule analysis
Abstract : Capillary electrophoresis with mass spectrometric (CE–MS) detection offers a separation method without equal in terms of flexibility, utility, and cost efficiency. Here we demonstrate precisely this through the application of several laboratory-built CE–MS instruments for the separation of brain metabolites in non-primates, enantioselective separations of synthetic anesthetic metabolites in fractionated pony urine, application in structural proteomics workflows, and identification of exogenous alkaloid biotransformationproducts in human cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). 5. Analytical Quality by Design Method Development for Vaccine Characterization
Abstract : Vaccines that are safe, efficacious, and can be rapidly developed are needed to prevent and to react to emerging global infectious disease threats such as influenza, Polio, and Coronavirus diseases. Fast and reliable analytical methods are required without delay to support vaccine process and product development, characterization, and quality control testing. READ MORE
