  1. 1. On the polymer-based nanocomposites for electrical switching applications

    Author : Venkatesh Doddapaneni; Muhammet Sadaka Toprak; Hans Edin; Rudolf Gati; Matti Ilmari Lehtonen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Polymer-based nanocomposites; Inorganic nanoparticles; Electrical arcs; Circuit breakers; Ablation Outgassing; Arc interruption capability; PMMA; CuO; Fe3O4; ZnO; Au; Radiative energy; Electric power; Arc temperature.; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Recent research demonstrated that polymer based nanocomposites (PNCs) have been engineered in order to improve the arc interruption capability of the circuit breakers. PNCs are the combination of nano-sized inorganic nanoparticles (NPs) and polymers, opened up new developments in materials science and engineering applications. READ MORE

  2. 2. Synthesis of nanostructured and hierarchical materials for bio-applications

    Author : Fei Ye; Mamoun Muhammed; Andreas Fisher; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fe3O4; mSiO2; core-shell; MRI; multifunctional; PNIPAAm; LCST; gold; nanorod; nitric acid; AR; MDDC; biocompatibility; immunomodulation; Materials chemistry; Materialkemi;

    Abstract : In recent years, nanostructured materials incorporated with inorganic particles and polymers have attracted attention for simultaneous multifunctional biomedical applications. This thesis summarized three works, which are preparation of mesoporous silica coated superparamagnetic iron oxide (Fe3O4@mSiO2) nanoparticles (NPs) as magnetic resonance imaging T2 contrast agents, polymer grafted Fe3O4@mSiO2 NPs response to temperature change, synthesis and biocompatibility evaluation of high aspect ratio (AR) gold nanorods. 3. 3. 3D Magnetic Photonic Crystals : Synthesis and Characterization

    Author : Mei Fang; K.Venkat Rao; Lyubov Belova; Rajeev Ahuja; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; magnetic photonic crystals; photonic band gaps; Fe3O4 nanoparticles; silica; Optical physics; Optisk fysik; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the synthesis methods and the characterizations of magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles, silica spheres with Fe3O4 nanoparticles embedded, and three dimensional magnetic photonic crystals (MPCs) prepared from the spheres. The structure, material composition, magnetic and optical properties, photonic band gaps (PBGs), as well as how these properties depend on the concentration of the magnetic nanoparticles, are investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID), Faraday rotation (FR) and optical spectrophotometers.
