  1. 1. Dietary L-Tryptophan Suppresses Aggression and Stress Responsiveness in Juvenile Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) : The Role of Brain Serotonin and Plasma Melatonin

    Author : Olivier Lepage; Svante Winberg; József Haller; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; serotonin; brain; fish; rainbow trout; Oncorhynchus mykiss; feed; stress; cortisol; melatonin; behaviour; aggression; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fed L-tryptophan (TRP) supplemented feed for 7 days show a suppression of aggressive behaviour along with a reduction in post-stress plasma cortisol levels. However, 3 days of elevated dietary TRP does not have any effects on either aggressive behaviour or post-stress plasma cortisol levels. READ MORE

  2. 2. Nutrient utilisation in growing Cambodian cattle : effect of different feed sources and feed conservation techniques

    Author : Keo Sath; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Natural forages are an important part of the diet of cattle in Cambodia, but their nutrient value, particularly in terms of macro-minerals, may be inadequate, leading to potential mineral deficiencies in grazing cattle. This thesis compared the nutrient composition of six forage types (rice bran, rice straw, para grass, cassava foliage, leucaena leaves, water hyacinth leaves) from two regions in Cambodia against faecal and urinary excretion of macro minerals by cattle. 3. 3. Hempseed cake as a protein feed for ruminants

    Author : Linda Karlsson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Increasing the use of locally produced protein feeds in ruminant production systems in northern Europe would be a valuable development. Hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) can be cultivated at high latitudes and cold-pressing the seeds to extract the oil produces a residue, hempseed cake (HC), with a high protein content. READ MORE

  4. 4. Effects of the level, type and processing of cereal grains in diets for dairy cows : feed intake and performance

    Author : Muhammad naeem Tahir; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Milk yield in dairy cows is directly dependent on their feed or energy intake. Due to genetic improvements, dairy cows have increased their potential for milk yield. This implies that the animal's energy requirements are drastically increased. READ MORE

  5. 5. Novel Marine Ingredients for Aquaculture - Fish Nutrition, Physiology and Intestinal Health

    Author : Niklas Warwas; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Marine ingredients; Intestinal health; Sustainable feed; Circular economy; Aquaculture;

    Abstract : Aquaculture is among the fastest growing food production sectors globally and supplies more fish to the growing human population than capture fisheries. One of the major challenges in salmonid aquaculture is to find renewable and sustainable feed ingredients which also satisfy the nutritional requirements of the fish. READ MORE
