  1. 1. Undrained shear strength in clay slopes - Influence of stress conditions. A model and field test study

    Author : Hjördis Löfroth; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; preconsolidation pressure; piezocone test; slope; model test; consolidation; horizontal stress; clay; undrained shear strength; direct simple shear test; field vane test; field test;

    Abstract : To counteract natural hazards such as landslides, current methods for evaluation of soil properties as a mean for determining the safety level of natural slopes need to be refined. The empirical relationships used for estimation of the undrained shear strength from piezocone and field vane test are based on the stress conditions valid for horizontal ground and normally consolidated or slightly overconsolidated soil. 2. 2. Motivational aspects of test-taking : measuring test-taking motivation in Swedish national test contexts

    Author : Eva Knekta; Hanna Eklöf; Anna Sundström; Rolf Vegar Olsen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Test-taking motivation; Swedish national tests; validity; expectancy-value theory; task value; expectancies; young adolescents; self-report instrument; interview; structural equation modelling; test stakes; didactics of educational measurement; beteendevetenskapliga mätningar;

    Abstract : The overall aim of the work underlying this thesis was to improve the understanding of students’ test-taking motivation in connection to achievement tests for young adolescents. The thesis includes four studies and a summary. All four studies explore test-taking motivation and are all connected to validity in one way of another. READ MORE

  3. 3. Moisture Influence on Structural Behaviour of Pavements : Field and Laboratory Investigations

    Author : Farhad Salour; Sigurdur Erlingsson; Guy Doré; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Falling Weight Deflectometer FWD ; backcalculation; unbound material; subgrade; seasonal variation; moisture content; spring-thaw; drainage; pavement stiffness; field test; pavement instrumentation; resilient modulus; permanent deformation; repeated load triaxial test; unsaturated soil; matric suction.; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Byggvetenskap; Transportvetenskap; Transport Science;

    Abstract : The structural behaviour of pavements in cold regions can considerably be affected by seasonal variation in environmental factors such as temperature and moisture content. Along with the destructive effect of heavy traffic loads, climatic and environmental factors can considerably contribute to pavement deterioration. READ MORE

  4. 4. Single-photon multiple ionisation of atoms and molecules investigated by coincidence spectroscopy : Site-specific effects in acetaldehyde and carbon dioxide

    Author : Sergey Zagorodskikh; Raimund Feifel; Vitali Zhaunerchyk; Melanie Mucke; Maria Novella Piancastelli; Tom Field; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; acetaldehyde; carbon dioxide; xenon; electron correlation; double ionisation; triple ionisation; core-valence ionisation; site-specific Auger decay; multiple Auger decay; branching ratios; site-specific photodissociation; molecular rearrangement; time-of-flight multi-electron-ion coincidence spectroscopy; synchrotron radiation; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, multiple ionisation processes of free atoms and molecules upon single photon absorption are studied by means of a versatile multi-electron-ion coincidence spectroscopy method based on a magnetic bottle, primarily in combination with synchrotron radiation. The latter offered the possibility to access not only valence but also core levels, revealing processes, which promote the target systems into different charge states. READ MORE
