  1. 1. Force Budget Analysis of Glacier Flow : Ice Dynamical Studies on Storglaciären, Sweden, and Ice Flow Investigations of Outlet Glaciers in Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica

    Author : Jim Hedfors; Veijo Pohjola; Else Kolstrup; Niels Reeh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical geography and sedimentology; force budget; ice flux; ice dynamics; mass balance; strain heating; climate change; Storglaciären; Dronning Maud Land; Antarctica; Naturgeografi och sedimentologi; Physical geography; Naturgeografi;

    Abstract : This thesis contributes to the understanding of glacier response to climate change by ice dynamical studies on Storglaciären, Sweden, and Bonnevie-Svendsenbreen, Kibergbreen and Plogbreen in Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica. Ice surface velocities, ice geometry and temperature information is fed through a force budget model to calculate ice mass outflux of these glacial systems via three-dimensional stress distributions for a flux-gate. 2. 2. Numerical Modelling of Self-Compacting Concrete Flow : Discrete and Continuous Approach

    Author : Annika Gram; Johan Silfwerbrand; Ali Farhang; Mette R. Geiker; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SCC; rheology; Simulation of Flow; Simulering; Flöde; Självkompakterande Betong; Reologi; Construction materials; Konstruktionsmaterial;

    Abstract : With the advent of Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) that flows freely, under the soleinfluence of gravity, the wish for hassle-free and predictable castings even in complexcases, spurged the simulation of concrete flow as a means to model and predictconcrete workability. To achieve complete and reliable form filling with smoothsurfaces of the concrete, the reinforced formwork geometry must be compatible withthe rheology of the fresh SCC. READ MORE

  3. 3. Urban Stormwater Treatment with Ultrafiltration and Pulsatile Fluid Flow

    Author : Saida Kaykhaii; Inga Herrmann; Annelie Hedström; Ekaterina Sokolova; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering; Centrumbildning - Centrum för dagvattenhantering DRIZZLE ; Centre - Centre for Stormwater Management DRIZZLE ;

    Abstract : Stormwater can be a potential water resource if it is treated, and the quality meets the demand, depending on the application. Various nutrients and pollutants, for example microorganisms can enter stormwater and can vary depending on time and place, as the contaminants come from different sources. READ MORE

  4. 4. CO2 Emissions from Northern Lakes : Insights on regulation and spatiotemporal variability across contrasting lakes in Sweden

    Author : David Rudberg; David Bastviken; Paul Hanson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lake; CO2 flux; Spatiotemporal variability; Empirical models; Sjö; Koldioxid-flöde; Rumsliga och tidsmässiga variationer; Empiriska modeller;

    Abstract : Lakes cover only ~2 % of the global land area, but their connections to the surrounding catchment make them important for the global carbon cycle. A considerable amount of the carbon input to lakes is emitted to the atmosphere as carbon dioxide (CO2) through diffusive flux. READ MORE

  5. 5. Water density impact on water flow and mass transport in rock fractures

    Author : Helen Winberg-Wang; Longcheng Liu; Ivars Neretnieks; Andrew Frampton; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tracer experiments; solute transport in fractured rock; advection-diffusion experiments; repositories; equivalent flowrate.; Spårämnesexperiment; ämnestransport i bergssprickor; advektion och diffusionsexperiment; slutförvar; ekvivalent flöde.;

    Abstract : One way of taking care of spent nuclear fuel is to place it in a geological repository. In Sweden, a three-barrier system is planned. The system is based on encapsulating the fuel in copper canisters. These are surrounded by bentonite clay and buried under 500 m of bedrock. READ MORE
