  1. 1. Distribution patterns of fleshy-fruited woody plants at local and regional scales

    Author : Matilda Arnell; Ove Eriksson; Johan Ehrlén; Sara A.O. Cousins; Angela Moles; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fleshy fruits; woody plants; dispersal; distribution patterns; range filling; dispersal limitation; historical land use; spatial associations; point-pattern analysis; recruitment; reproduction; pollination; fruit set; fruit-removal; Daphne mezereum; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Abstract : Fleshy-fruited woody plants share a long history with humans, providing us with food and wood material. Because of this relation, we have actively moved some of these plants across landscapes and continents. READ MORE

  2. 2. Adaptation and Constraint in the Plant Reproductive Phase

    Author : Kjell Bolmgren; Ove Eriksson; Bengt Oxelman; Jeff Ollerton; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phenology; fleshy fruits; phylogenetic comparative methods; phylogenetic constraints; Rhamnus; Frangula; Frangula alnus; key innovations; allometry; diversity; phylogeny; seed size; frugivory; germination; recruitment; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Abstract : Conservatism is a central theme of organismic evolution. Related species share characteristics due to their common ancestry. Some concern have been raised among evolutionary biologists, whether such conservatism is an expression of natural selection or of a constrained ability to adapt. READ MORE

  3. 3. Small remnant habitats : Important structures in fragmented landscapes

    Author : Jessica Lindgren; Sara Cousins; Regina Lindborg; Adam Kimberley; Ove Eriksson; Hans Henrik Bruun; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alpha-diversity; Beta-diversity; Biological pest control; Canopy cover; Connectivity; Ecosystem function; Fleshy fruits; Forest edge; Forest management; Forest specialist species; Fragmentation; Functional diversity; Gamma-diversity; Grassland specialist species; Green infrastructure; Habitat amount hypothesis; Island biogeography; Midfield islets; Plant diversity; Plant-pollinator interaction; Pollination; Remnant habitat; Seed predation; Small habitats; Species richness; Structural heterogeneity; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : The world-wide intensification of agriculture has led to a decline in species richness due to land use change, isolation, and fragmentation of natural and semi-natural habitats in agricultural and forestry landscapes. As a consequence, there is a current landscape management focus on the importance of green infrastructure to mitigate biodiversity decline and preserve ecosystem functions e. READ MORE

  4. 4. Evolution and biodiversity of the Ixoroideae (Rubiaceae)

    Author : Kent Kainulainen; Birgitta Bremer; Sylvain Razafimandimbison; Torsten Eriksson; Sandra Knapp; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alberteae; character evolution; classification; Condamineeae; fruit evolution; Ixoroideae; phylogenetics; pollen presentation; Rubiaceae; systematics; taxonomy; Systematics and phylogenetics; Systematik och fylogeni; växtsystematik; Plant Systematics;

    Abstract : The phylogenetic relationships within subfamily Ixoroideae of the coffee family are investigated by phylogenetic reconstruction of molecular data, including regions of the chloroplast DNA (matK, ndhF, rbcL, rps16, trnH-psbA, trnS-G, and trnT-F), and the nuclear ribosomal DNA (ITS). The evolution of morphological characters within the group are inferred, with focus on characters used in classification. READ MORE

  5. 5. Evolutionary Studies in Asterids Emphasising Euasterids II

    Author : Jesper Kårehed; Mats H. G. Gustafsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organismic biology; Apiales; Aquifoliales; Asterales; asterids; Bayesian inference; Cardiopteridaceae; DNA sequence data; Icacinaceae; morphology; parsimony; Pennantiaceae; phylogeny; Stemonuraceae; Organismbiologi; Organism biology; Organismbiologi; systematisk botanik; Systematic Botany;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with evolutionary relationships within the asterids, a group of plants comprising about one-third of all flowering plants.Two new families are recognised: Pennantiaceae and Stemonuraceae. The woody Pennantia from New Zealand and Australia is the sole genus of Pennantiaceae. READ MORE
