  1. 1. Temporal Modulation in Fluorescence Spectroscopy and Imaging for Biological Applications

    Author : Gustav Persson; Jerker Widengren; Jörg Enderlein; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorescence; spectroscopy; microscopy; modulated excitation; intensity modulation; fluorescence correlation spectroscopy; transient states; molecular kinetics; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the benefits of intensity modulation for the purpose of extending the range of applications of fluorescence spectroscopy and imaging in cellular and molecular biology and medicine. Long-lived transient states of fluorescent molecules can, because of their long lifetimes, be used to detect subtle changes in the microenvironment of the molecule. READ MORE

  2. 2. Towards Undistorted Fluorescence for Tissue Diagnostics and Therapy Monitoring

    Author : Haiyan Xie; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; upconversion; upconverting nanoparticles; fluorescence-guided-surgery; fluorescence diagnostics; photodynamic therapy; multi-spectral imaging; spectroscopy; biomedical optics; fluorescence; Fysicumarkivet A:2014:Xie;

    Abstract : Fluorescence techniques for applications in tissue diagnostics and therapy monitoring were investigated and developed in the work presented in this thesis. The aim was to develop fluorescence diagnostics for the detection of malignant tumors and better delimitation of the tumor margins, using the enhanced contrast in fluorescence between tumor and surrounding healthy tissue. 3. 3. Time-Varying Excitation in Fluorescence Spectroscopy for Biological Applications

    Author : Gustav Persson; Jerker Widengren; Måns Ehrenberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorescence; spectroscopy; molecular kinetics; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : The focus of this thesis is to explore and use the benefits of time-varying excitation in fluorescence spectroscopy for studies of biomolecular dynamics. Two new techniques taking advantage of modulated excitation are presented. READ MORE

  4. 4. First As Probe, Then As Function - Fluorescence in Bio-inspired Nanotechnology

    Author : Jonas Hannestad; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; self-assembly; lipid membrane; bio-inspired; FRET; light-harvesting; spectroscopy.; fluorescence; nanotechnology; single molecule fluorescence spectroscopy; DNA;

    Abstract : In this thesis, I demonstrate how fluorescence can be used in the context of bio-inspired nanotechnology, both as an indirect probe and as a function in itself. By combining principles and molecules from three different bio-molecular systems, DNA, bacterial light-harvesting complexes and cell membranes, I have constructed nano- and microscale systems for long-range excitation energy transfer, light-harvesting and reaction control. 5. 5. Diode laser spectroscopy in extended wavelength ranges

    Author : Ulf Gustafsson; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; diode-laser spectroscopy; frequency-modulation spectroscopy; frequency conversion; fluorescence spectroscopy; scattering; diffraction; Fysicumarkivet A:2000:Gustafsson; Atomic and molecular physics; Atom- och molekylärfysik; absorption spectroscopy;

    Abstract : Diode laser spectroscopy performed in the ultraviolet, visible and infrared spectral regions is presented. The accessible wavelength range for visible and near-infrared diode lasers is extended by the use of sum- and difference-frequency generation. READ MORE
