  1. 1. Tilted Foils Nuclear Spin Polarization and Measurement with Coulomb Excitation

    University dissertation from Chalmers University of Technology

    Author : Hans Törnqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola.; Chalmers University of Technology.; [2012]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mellanenergifysik; Middle energy physics; Nuclear; Spin; Polarization; Tilted; Foils; Coulomb; Excitation;

    Abstract : Developing new experimental tools is essential to expand the possibilites of probing the structure of atomic nuclei. The better the currently known properties of nuclei can be manipulated, the more information can be extracted from data collected in nuclear reaction experiments. READ MORE

  2. 2. Tilted Foils Nuclear Spin Polarization at REX-ISOLDE

    University dissertation from Chalmers University of Technology

    Author : Hans Törnqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola.; Chalmers University of Technology.; [2013]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nuclear spin polarization; tilted foils; particle scattering; beta-NMR; ISOLDE; REX-ISOLDE; HIE-ISOLDE; post-acceleration;

    Abstract : This thesis will explain and summarize my work and involvement in experiments aimed at producing nuclear spin polarization of post-accelerated beams of ions with the tilted-foils technique at the REX-ISOLDE linear accelerator at CERN. Polarizing the nuclear spin of radioactive beams in particular may provide access to observables which may be difficult to obtain otherwise. READ MORE

  3. 3. Weakening of Crack-tip Singularity due to Buckling of Thin Bodies under Tension

    University dissertation from LTH, Lund University

    Author : Cong Li; Li Chong; Malmö University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2007]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Technology; Thin foils; Fracture; Buckling;

    Abstract : When thin sheets containing a crack is subjected to tensile loading in the direction perpendicular to the crack surface out of plane displacement will occur in areas surrounding the crack. By this the stress state in the vicinity of the crack tip is changed and leads to a weaker crack tip singularity than the r-1/2 by linear elastic fracture mechanics. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cavitation Mechanisms Related to Erosion Studies on Kaplan Turbines, Foils, and Propellers

    University dissertation from Chalmers University of Technology

    Author : Mikael Grekula; Chalmers tekniska högskola.; Chalmers University of Technology.; [2010]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningsmekanik; Fluid mechanics; Cavitation; hydrodynamics; cavitation mechanisms; cavitation erosion; cavitation noise; cavitation assessment; experimental studies;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis work is to study cavitation behaviours related to erosion. The focus is on processes of observable scale, i.e. the process prior to the micro scale level at which the actual damage is generated. READ MORE

  5. 5. Thin-Film Coated Steel Foils as Interconnects for Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC)

    University dissertation from Chalmers University of Technology

    Author : Rakshith Nugehalli Sachitanand; Chalmers tekniska högskola.; Chalmers University of Technology.; [2015]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SOFC; Fuel Cell; Interconnect; Steel; Corrosion; Energy;

    Abstract : Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs) are electrochemical energy conversion devices that have the potential to achieve high efficiencies while using a broad range of fuels. The advancement of the technology has however been hindered by a number of technical and economic barriers, one of which is the durability and cost of the bipolar plate or interconnect that connects individual cells in series to form a so-called ‘stack’.
