1. Star clusters as engines of galaxy evolution
Abstract : Feedback in star forming galaxies is the key process that regulates how many stars form given the available gas reservoir. The radiation, energy and momentum released by the stellar activity and the active galactic nuclei change the physical properties of the gas in the galaxy such as the ionisation state, the density and the kinematics. 2. Laser-Induced Incandescence for Soot Diagnostics: Theoretical Investigation and Experimental Development
Abstract : Laser-induced incandescence, LII, is a laser-diagnostic technique that can be used to measure the volume fraction and the sizes of soot particles suspended in a gas, such as within a combustion process or in its exhausts. The technique is based on the facts that the time-decay of the radiation from laser-heated soot particles is directly related to the particle size in the probed volume, and that the time-integrated radiation is related to the soot volume fraction. 3. Biomass to Biofuel : Syngas Cleaning and Biomass Feedstock
Abstract : This thesis builds around the idea of a biofuel production process that is comprised of biomass production, biomass gasification, gas cleaning, and fuel production. In this work, we specifically looked into H2S removal as a part of cleaning the producer gas and flocculation of microalgae which is involved in the harvesting of microalgae after biomass production. 4. Optical characterisation of subwavelength dielectric particles using particle tracking beyond the Stokes-Einstein relation
Abstract : As the importance of nanoparticles continues to increase in both biology and industrial processes, so does the need for accurate and versatile characterisation methods. However, most light-based methods to quantify size and refractive index of individual particles are either limited to snapshot observations, particles larger than the wavelength of light, non-dynamic particle properties, or assuming the hydrodynamic boundary conditions without experimental evaluation. 5. Cell adhesion proteins in different invasive patterns of colon carcinomas : a morphometric and molecular genetic study
Abstract : Colorectal carcinoma is the second most common type of cancer in both men and women in Sweden. Cancer of the colon and rectum are often considered together and their ten year survival rate is approximately 50 – 60 % depending on sex and location. READ MORE
