1. Constitutive Behaviour and Fracture of Adhesive Layers : Inverse Methods and Energetic Balance
Abstract : In the automobile industry, current demands on reduced emissions with maintained or even increased crash worthiness, forces the industry to seek weight-reducing designs. The possibility to use lightweight materials is obviously attractive. At joints, these lightweight materials have to be connected to high-strength or low-cost materials. READ MORE

2. In-Plane Fracture of Paper
Abstract : The in-plane failure of paper is studied in this work by means of a cohesive crack model from experimental as well as theoretical perspectives. Localized damage at in-plane tension of short paper strips is studied for low strain rates. READ MORE

3. Heterogeneous Bonded Particle Modelling of Rock Fracture
Abstract : The dynamic fracture process of rock materials is of importance for several industries, such as the rock drilling process in geothermal and mining applications. Gaining knowledge and understanding of dynamic rock fracture through numerical simulations can enhance the rock drilling process, for example by optimising the drill bit geometry and drilling parameters. 4. On the treatment of tibial fractures using the Ilizarov fixator
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to analyse the results of the Ilizarov method in patients with different types of tibial fracture and compare them with conventional methods, in terms of primary union, complication rates, post-operative function, quality of life, and how the patients´ gait was affected during rehabilitation. Fifty-eight patients with isolated diaphyseal fractures (Study I) were randomised to treatment with either the Ilizarov method (IL) or locked intramedullary nailing (IM). READ MORE

5. Exercise in Youth and Long-Term Effects on Bone and Joints
Abstract : Partly due to an ageing population, the number of osteoporosis-related fractures and osteoarthritis (OA)-related hip and knee arthroplasty procedures is increasing. The individual suffering and the burden on society for these conditions is immense. READ MORE
