  1. 21. Nitric oxide in brain contusion

    Author : Caroline Gahm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Apoptosis; Colchicine; Dexamethasone; eNOS; human; immunohistochemistry; iNOS; L-NAME; L-NIL; neuronal degeneration; Nimodipine; nitric oxide; NO; nNOS; rat; SPBN; Tirilazad Mesylate; traumatic brain injury;

    Abstract : Trauma to the brain is a leading cause of death and disability. The primary injury initiates a cascade of biochemical reactions in the brain that causes further neuronal damage, a process referred to as secondary brain injury. READ MORE

  2. 22. A first-principles approach to protein–ligand interaction

    Author : Pär Söderhjelm; Beräkningskemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; solvation; exchange repulsion; polarizable force fields; polarization; molecular mechanics; quantum chemistry; intermolecular interactions; protein–ligand interaction;

    Abstract : It is still impossible to make an accurate, purely theoretical prediction of the free energy of a ligand binding to a protein in aqueous environment. The two main problems are the immense number of nuclear configurations contributing to the binding free energy and the impossibility to apply accurate quantum-chemical methods to such a large system, even for a single configuration. 3. 23. Laccase from a Litter Degrading Fungus: Evaluation for Environmental Applications and Modification of Lignin to a Bioadhesive

    Author : Victor Ibrahim; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Laccase, the phenol oxidizing enzyme, was first described towards the end of the 19th century from the wound sap of the lacquer tree Rhus vernicifera. The enzyme has the widest distribution in nature among the multicopper oxidases. It catalyzes single electron transfer oxidation in the presence of molecular oxygen producing water as by-product. 4. 24. Postoperative nausea and vomiting in women : an unglamorous aspect of anaesthesia

    Author : Eva Oddby Muhrbeck; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Anaesthesia; blood glucose; clonidine; epinephrine; pathophysiology; platelet count; postoperative nausea and vomiting; serotonin; therapeutic suggestion; vasopressin; women.;

    Abstract : Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONY) still remains a common and undesirable side effect of anaesthesia. Women are afflicted by PONY two to three times more often than men and a substantial number of patients consider PONV to be the worst part of the entire surgical procedure. READ MORE

  5. 25. Aspects of Chemotherapy in Prostate Cancer

    Author : Åsa Jellvert; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; prostate cancer; CRPC; chemotherapy; metronomic; prognostic; predictive; biomarkers;

    Abstract : Since 2004 chemotherapy has been a part of standard of care in prostate cancer (PC) and improved symptom control and survival has been demonstrated in metastatic castration-resistant PC. Whether docetaxel has benefits in earlier stages of PC is currently under investigation. READ MORE
