  1. 1. Functional Copolymers of Polyvinylpyrrolidone

    Author : Jonas Engström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; suspension polymerization; functional monomers; 1-vinylpyrrolidin-2-one; copolymerization; swelling; crosslinking; solid-phase synthesis; drug delivery vehicles.; phase-selective solubility; beads; Polyvinylpyrrolidone;

    Abstract : In many ways, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) has a unique combination of chemical and physical properties. Unlike most polymers it is soluble in water as well as a number of organic solvents. PVP also has excellent film forming properties, outstanding chemical stability, complexing ability, low toxicity, and good adherence to many different substrates. READ MORE

  2. 2. Multi-functional Chromophores

    Author : Fredrik Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : As the push towards green energy become stronger, more efficient systems needs to be developed to compete with fossil fuel based systems. In modern Grätzel solar cells, most of the energy losses are inherited from the choice of chromophore and metal oxide surface. READ MORE

  3. 3. Functional Metallic Glasses

    Author : Ansar Masood; Lyubov Belova; K. Venkat Rao; Lars Arnberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : Bulk Metallic glasses; glass forming ability; soft magnetism; thin films; magnetic properties; magnetic hardening; plasticity; biocompatibility;

    Abstract : For decades, Metallic Glass, with its isotropic featureless structure while exhibiting outstanding mechanical properties was possible only at a high rate of quenching and with at least one dimension in the submicron regime.  This limitation was overcome with the discovery of Bulk Metallic glasses, BMGs, containing three or more elements following the additional two empirical rules of optimum geometric size differences and negative energy of mixing among the constituent elements. 4. 4. Transport by Benthic Macrofauna: Functional Classification and Biogeochemical Response

    Author : Stina Lindqvist; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Marine sediments; Early diagenesis; Bioturbation; Functional groups; Benthic fluxes; Imaging; Ecosystem function; Sediment reworking; Transport proxies; Fluorescent particles;

    Abstract : Burrowing and reworking activities by benthic macrofauna regulate rates and pathways during organic matter mineralisation in bioturbated sediments. In so doing, they also affect the overall cycling of elements crucial in the biosphere (e.g. C, N, P, Fe, Mn and S). READ MORE

  5. 5. Functional Morphology of Gastropods and Bivalves

    Author : Jenny Sälgeback; Lars Holmer; John S. Peel; Jan-Ove Ebbestad; Enrico Savazzi; Anders Warén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Earth sciences; Gastropoda; Bivalvia; functional morphology; constructional morphology; Geovetenskap;

    Abstract : Functional morphology analyzes the relationships between form and function in organisms. However, a comprehensive analysis of any organic structure requires an integrated approach to morphology. For this purpose constructional morphology was developed, where function, phylogeny and construction together explain form. READ MORE
