  2. 2. Excavating the Digital Landscape : GIS analyses of social relations in central Sweden in the 1st millennium AD

    Author : Daniel Löwenborg; Paul Sinclair; Julian D. Richards; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; landscape archaeology; GIS; Iron Age; Västmanland; burial grounds; Vendel Period; Viking Age; territorial organisation; watersheds; statistical analysis; chronology; discriminant analysis; GWR; spatial analysis; perception; topography; AD 536; Fimbulvinter; property rights; crisis; historical ecology.; Archaeology; Arkeologi; Archaeology; Arkeologi;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a number of GIS based landscape analyses that together aim to explore aspects of the social development in Iron Age Västmanland, central Sweden. From a perspective where nature and culture are seen as integrated in the landscape, differences in the relations to the physical landscape are interpreted as reflecting social organisation. 3. 3. Water quality modeling based on landscape analysis: importance of riparian hydrology

    Author : Thomas Grabs; Jan Seibert; Kevin Bishop; Hjalmar Laudon; Brian McGlynn; Georgia Destouni; Irena Creed; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Water quality model; terrain analysis; geographical information system GIS; riparian zone; total organic carbon TOC; boreal catchments; Hydrology; Hydrologi; geografi med naturgeografisk inriktning; Physical Geography;

    Abstract : Several studies in high-latitude catchments have demonstrated the importance of near-stream riparian zones as hydrogeochemical hotspots with a substantial influence on stream chemistry. An adequate representation of the spatial variability of riparian-zone processes and characteristics is the key for modeling spatio-temporal variations of stream-water quality. READ MORE

  4. 4. Modelling Hydrological and Hydrodynamic Processes in Lake Tana Basin, Ethiopia

    Author : Shimelis Gebriye Setegn; Bijan Dargahi; Nicola Fohrer; KTH; []

    Abstract : Lake Tana Basin is of significant importance to Ethiopia concerning water resources aspects and the ecological balance of the area. The growing high demands in utilizing the high potentials of water resource of the Lake to its maximal limit, pictures a disturbing future for the Lake. READ MORE

  5. 5. Economic evaluation, value of life, stated preference methodology and determinants of risks

    Author : Björn Sund; Lars Hultkrantz; Ulf Persson; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Cost-benefit analysis; value of a statistical life; contingent valuation; cardiac arrest; defibrillation; calibration; sensitivity to scope; risk communication; response times; incident experience; risk perception.; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; Economics; Nationalekonomi; Economics; Nationalekonomi;

    Abstract : The first paper examines the value of a statistical life (VSL) for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) victims. We found VSL values to be higher for OHCA victims than for people who die in road traffic accidents and a lower-bound estimate of VSL for OHCA would be in the range of 20 to 30 million Swedish crowns (SEK).
