  1. 1. The G protein-coupled receptor GPR30 signalosome - A novel G protein-independent mechanism regulating cAMP signaling and receptor trafficking

    Author : Stefan Broselid; Drug Target Discovery; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; AKAP5; AKAP; MAGUK; cAMP signaling; constitutive signaling; signalosome; GPER; GPR30; GPCR; cytokeratin; RAMP3; apoptotic signaling; breast cancer; PDZ; PDZ-ligand;

    Abstract : The large protein family called G Protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) has co-evolved with life throughout evolution; from single cell organisms all the way to complex beings such as us humans. The fact that GPCRs are involved in essentially every physiological event, and that ~50% of drugs on the current market are either directly or indirectly targeted towards the function of GPCRs, we can be certain of their considerable importance. 2. 2. G protein-coupled estrogen receptor 1 (GPER) in the female reproductive tract: from physiology to cancer

    Author : Zuzana Kolkova; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Estrogen effects are mediated either through genomic action involving the classical estrogen receptors, estrogen receptor alpha (ERα) and beta (ERß), which function as transcription factors in the nucleus, or through rapid non-genomic action via receptors associated with plasma membrane. Recently, a member of the G protein-coupled receptor family was ascribed estrogen receptor properties and proposed as a candidate for mediating non-genomic estrogen signaling. READ MORE

  3. 3. Estrogen actions in the growth plate cartilage

    Author : Maryam Iravani; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Estrogens may influence bone growth locally or systemically via the estrogen receptors alpha (ERα), beta (ERβ) and G protein-coupled estrogen receptor 1 (GPER-1). In Paper I, our study showed that the treatment of ovariectomized C57BL/6 mice with a selective ERα agonist 1,3,5-tris(4-hydroxyphenyl)-4-propyl-1H-pyrazole (PPT) reduced growth plate height and hypertrophic zone height suggesting that the effect was induced via ERα. 4. 4. Prevention of beta-cell dysfunction via targeting novel GPCRs in pancreatic islets

    Author : Rajesh Kumar; Islet cell physiology; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type II Diabetes; GPCR; Pancreatic islets; Estrogen; Alpha-1 antitrypsin.;

    Abstract : The primary aim of this thesis was to investigate the role of G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) in insulin secretion and beta-cell survival. The second aim was to determine which pathway is involved in insulin release and beta-cell protection via GPCRs. READ MORE

  5. 5. Estrogen and Serotonin – old dogs, new tricks, Implications for pancreatic beta-cell function

    Author : Alexander Balhuizen; Celiaki och diabetes; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diabetes; Estrogen; Serotonin; Pancreatic islets; Insulin resistance; Beta-cell function; GPCR;

    Abstract : Islet hormone secretion is tightly regulated by metabolic status as well as local and circulating factors. These factors can activate different receptors on the pancreatic islet cells, for instance G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs). READ MORE
