  1. 1. Gamma Spectroscopy and Gamma Emission Tomography for Fuel Performance Characterization of Irradiated Nuclear Fuel Assemblies

    Author : Scott Holcombe; Staffan Jacobsson Svärd; Hans-Urs Zwicky; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear fuel performance; Nuclear fuel assemblies; Gamma emission tomography; Gamma spectroscopy;

    Abstract : Gamma spectroscopy and gamma emission tomography are two non-destructive measurement techniques for assessing the performance of nuclear fuel which have been investigated in this thesis for existing and novel applications through theoretical studies and experimental demonstrations. For assessment of individual fuel rods using gamma spectroscopy, fuel assemblies are dismantled so that the fuel rods may be measured separately, which is time-consuming and may cause damage to the fuel. 2. 2. Quantum-state Selective Nuclear Decay Spectroscopy

    Author : Ch. Lorenz; Kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nuclear structure; alpha decay; beta decay; gamma rays; spectroscopy; Penning traps; shell-model calculations; Geant4 Monte Carlo Simulations;

    Abstract : This thesis focusses on the results of two experiments employing Penning traps to prepare pure beams of the 213Ra ground state and 127Cd, which were then studied with the decay-spectroscopy setup TASISpec. The experiments were conducted with SHIPTRAP at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt, Germany, and JYFLTRAP at the IGISOL Accelerator Facility at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. 3. 3. Applications of Gamma Ray Spectroscopy of Spent Nuclear Fuel for Safeguards and Encapsulation

    Author : Christofer Willman; Ane Håkansson; Henrik Nylén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Nuclear physics; gamma radiation; spectroscopy; spent nuclear fuel; safeguards; HRGS; MOX; Kärnfysik;

    Abstract : Nuclear energy is currently one of the world’s main sources of electricity. Closely connected to the use of nuclear energy are important issues such as the nonproliferation of fissile material that may potentially used in nuclear weapons (safeguards), and the management of the highly radioactive nuclear waste. 4. 4. Segmented HPGe detectors for post-irradiation examination of nuclear fuel : Design and demonstration in gamma emission tomography

    Author : Vikram Rathore; Peter Andersson; Erik Andersson Sundén; Ane Håkansson; Andrew Boston; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Segmented HPGe detector; Nuclear fuel; Post-irradiation examination; Nuclear fuel diagnostics; Gamma emission tomography; Gamma spectroscopy; Non-destructive fuel testing; Applied Nuclear Physics; Tillämpad kärnfysik;

    Abstract : Gamma emission tomography (GET) is a proven non-invasive technique for post-irradiation examination of nuclear fuel. In the past, collimated HPGe detectors were used for GET measurements due to their good energy resolution. READ MORE

    Abstract : High-spin states in the mass A~60 region were populated using the state-of-art gamma-ray spectrometers Gammasphere, Euroball, and GASP in conjunction with dedicated ancillary detectors. In particular, the 59Cu nucleus was studied in several experiments, and a very extensive level scheme was determined. READ MORE
