  1. 1. From GWAS to gene : Zebrafish as a model system for large-scale studies of obesity and comorbidities

    Author : Eugenia Mazzaferro; Marcel den Hoed; Randall Peterson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; zebrafish; genetic screens; gene editing; CRISPR Cas9; obesity; Medicinsk genetik; Medical Genetics;

    Abstract : Obesity increases the risk of developing comorbidities such as cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. However, not all obese individuals develop comorbidities, and those that do not are referred to as “metabolically healthy obesity” individuals. READ MORE

  2. 2. Exploring the Boundaries of Gene Regulatory Network Inference

    Author : Andreas Tjärnberg; Erik Sonnhammer; Richard Bonneau; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; GRN; gene regulatory network; network inference; signal to noise ratio; model selection; variable selection; data properties; reverse engineering; ordinary differential equations; gene networks; linear regression; lasso; Biochemistry towards Bioinformatics; biokemi med inriktning mot bioinformatik;

    Abstract : To understand how the components of a complex system like the biological cell interact and regulate each other, we need to collect data for how the components respond to system perturbations. Such data can then be used to solve the inverse problem of inferring a network that describes how the pieces influence each other. READ MORE

  3. 3. Gene regulation by Early B-cell Factor (EBF)

    Author : Peter Åkerblad; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serology; Immunology; B-lymphocytes; Differentiation; Transcription; EBF; Gene regulation; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : In this study we aimed at defining genes that are controlled by Early B-cell Factor (EBF), that could explain the severe block in B-cell development observed in EBF-/- mice. The fact that EBF appears to be important for the transcriptional control of genes encoding proteins in the pre-B and B-cell receptor complex implied to us that EBF could be a common regulator of other components in the pre-B and B-cell receptor. 4. 4. Gene Polymorphisms and Related Cell Markers in Periodontitis Lesions

    Author : Mauro Donati; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Allele; B-lymphocyte; cell-surface molecule; cytokine; gene expression; genotype; gingivitis; host response; inflammation; periodontal disease;

    Abstract : Inflammatory and immune reactions to microbial plaque are the predominant features of periodontitis. Epidemiological studies revealed that differences in periodontitis among individuals could not be explained by differences in oral hygiene alone and that not everybody is equally susceptible. 5. 5. Network and gene expression analyses for understanding protein function

    Author : Oliver Frings; Erik Sonnhammer; Rune Linding; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biological networks; network inference; network analysis; clustering; network module; network crosstalk; expression analysis; gene signature; biomarker; biokemi; inriktning teoretisk kemi; Biochemistry with Emphasis on Theoretical Chemistry;

    Abstract : Biological function is the result of a complex network of functional associations between genes or their products. Modeling the dynamics underlying biological networks is one of the big challenges in bioinformatics. READ MORE
