  1. 1. Conditional targeting of the PDGF-B gene

    Author : Maria Enge; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gene targeting; Cre loxP; PDGF; pericytes; diabetic retinopathy; brain injury; neurons;

    Abstract : Platelet derived growth factors (PDGF) are known as mitogens for fibroblasts, smooth muscle cells (SMC) and glia cells in culture. Previous in vivo analyses have shown that PDGF-B is necessary for normal embryonic development and life after birth, but the relative importance of the various cellular sources of PDGF-B during development has not been clarified. 2. 2. Genetic re-targeting and de-targeting of adenovirus type 5 in order to create vectors for gene therapy

    Author : Susanna Myhre; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Adenovirus; gene therapy; vector; re-targeting; de-targeting; fiber; pIX; affibody molecule; single chain antibody;

    Abstract : Gene therapy has been considered to be a revolutionary development in medicine, whereby the cause and not the symptoms of the disease would be treated. These expectations have as yet not been realized, mainly due to lack of suitable vectors. READ MORE

  3. 3. New Conditional Gene Targeting Methods : For Studying Neurotrophic Mechanisms in Selected Neuronal Populations

    Author : Jonas Lindeberg; Christer Betsholtz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; Developmental Neurosciences; Medicinsk utvecklings- och neurobiologi;

    Abstract : Powerful techniques to manipulate the mouse genome have had a great impact on our understanding of biology. The major drawback with conventional transgenic methods is that the genetic alteration will be present in every cell of the animal, from conception and onwards. READ MORE

  4. 4. From GWAS to gene : Zebrafish as a model system for large-scale studies of obesity and comorbidities

    Author : Eugenia Mazzaferro; Marcel den Hoed; Randall Peterson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; zebrafish; genetic screens; gene editing; CRISPR Cas9; obesity; Medicinsk genetik; Medical Genetics;

    Abstract : Obesity increases the risk of developing comorbidities such as cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. However, not all obese individuals develop comorbidities, and those that do not are referred to as “metabolically healthy obesity” individuals. READ MORE

  5. 5. Targeting Infectious Disease : Structural and functional studies of proteins from two RNA viruses and Mycobacterium tuberculosis
