  1. 1. Genomic and genetic alterations in endometrial adenocarcinoma

    Author : Eva Falck; Karin Klinga-Levan; Afrouz Behboudi; Pierre Åhman; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endometrial cancer; Genetic background; BDII rat model; SKY; Chromosomal abreations; Gene expression; Medicine; Medicin; Natural sciences;

    Abstract : The most frequently diagnosed cancer of the female genital tract is cancer of the endometrium (endometrial cancer), ranking fourth among the invasive tumors that affect women in Europe and North America. As most other cancer types, endometrial cancer is a complex genetic disease influenced by both genetic and environmental factors. READ MORE

  2. 2. Genetic studies of diabetes in northern Sweden

    Author : Sofia Mayans; Dan Holmberg; Mats Eliasson; Outi Vaarala; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : Diabetes mellitus represents a group of metabolic disorders caused by both environmental and genetic factors. The two most common forms of diabetes are type 2 diabetes (T2D) and type 1 diabetes (T1D). T2D is associated with obesity and the disease is caused by insulin resistance and pancreatic b-cell dysfunction. READ MORE

  3. 3. Genetic background of familial primary hyperparathyroidism

    Author : Andrea Villablanca; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []

    Abstract : In this thesis the aim has been to identify and characterise gene(s) involved in familial primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT). In multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN 1), the hyperparathyroidism-jaw tumour syndrome (HPT-JT) and familial isolated hyperparathyroidism (FIHP), in which primary hyperparathyroidism is seen in most or almost all gene carriers. Abstract : With pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), genetic testing and selective transfer of embryos is possible. In the future, germ-line gene therapy (GLGT) applied to embryos before implantation, in order to introduce missing genes or replace mutant ones, may be possible. READ MORE

  5. 5. The genetic background of gestational diabetes mellitus

    Author : Anastasia Papadopoulou; Celiaki och diabetes; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gestational diabetes mellitus; HLA; TCF7L2; PTPN22; Post partum diabetes; Type 1 Diabetes; Type 2 Diabetes; Islet Cell Autoantibodies;

    Abstract : The aims of this work is to better determine the genetic background of gestational diabetes (GDM) and to examine how specific genes affect the development of diabetes post partum. In the DiPiS (Diabetes Prediction in Skåne) study we typed for HLA-DQB1 alleled, the transcription factor 7-like 2(TCF7L2) rs7903146, rs12255372 and rs7901695 SNPs, the 1858 C>T SNP of the protein tyrosine phosphatase non-receptor 22 (PTPN22) gene and we tested for the presence of islet cell autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase 65 (GAD65), insulinoma-associated antigen 2 (IA-2) and insulin in women who had been diagnosed with GDM at least once during 2000-2004.
