  1. 1. Development of Flourescence-based Immunosensors for Continous Carbohydrate Monotoring : Applications for Maltose and Glucose

    Author : Henrik Engström; Sten Ohlson; Per Ola Andersson; Christopher Lowe; Högskolan i Kalmar; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Carbohydrate; Diabetes; Immunosensor; ; Glucose; Maltose; Weak affinity chromatograhpy; Kolhydrater; Glukos; Maltose; Affinitetskromatografi; Diabetes; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Bioteknik; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : Weak affinity interaction of monoclonal antibodies and carbohydrate antigens can be detected and quantified by alterations in the antibodies' intrinsic tryptophan fluorescence. These weak/transient binding events have been monitored by total internal reflection fluorescence (TlRF) by facilitating the change in intrinsic tryptophan fluorescence. READ MORE

    Abstract : Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common forms of cancer. The cause of CRC is multifactorial, and lifestyle factors are thought to be a major contributor to the development of CRC. READ MORE

  4. 4. Study of DNA methylation in human pancreatic islets

    Author : Elin Hall; Diabetes - epigenetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; type 2 diabetes; epigenetics; DNA mehtylation; human pancreatic islets; insulin secretion;

    Abstract : Today type 2 diabetes is a common disease with a worldwide prevalence of 8.3%. The disease is characterised by hyperglycaemia which is a result of insufficient insulin secretion from the beta-cells in the pancreatic islets as well as an insulin resistance seen in the target tissues. 5. 5. The neuropeptides GRP and PACAP and the function of the endocrine pancreas - A study on receptor deficient mice

    Author : Kristin Persson; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; hypoglycemia; glucagon; insulin; islet of Langerhans; diabetes; PACAP; neuropeptides; GRP; diabetologi;

    Abstract : The parasympathetic nerves are important for the regulation of insulin secretion, in particular after meal intake. Apart from acetylcholine, several neuropeptides can be found in the parasympathetic nerves innervating the islets of Langerhans, including gastrin-releasing peptide (GRP) and pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP).
