  1. 1. Mechanism of Metabolite transfer between Enzymes in Glycolysis and Connected Pathways

    Author : Wilma Martinez Arias; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Channelling; Free-diffusion; Glycolytic pathway; Dehydrogenases; Enzyme kinetics; Biochemistry; Metabolite transfer mechanism.; Biokemi; Metabolism;

    Abstract : The metabolite produced by one enzyme in a metabolic pathway can be transferred to the next enzyme in the pathway by free diffusion via solution or by channelling in an enzyme-enzyme complex without prior release of the metabolite to solution. While metabolite channelling is known to occur in systems where stable multienzyme complexes form, conflicting views have been expressed as to its existence in pathways involving "soluble" enzymes. 2. 2. Somatic Mutations in Breast Cancer Genomes : Discovery and Validation of Breast Cancer Genes

    Author : Xiang Jiao; Tobias Sjöblom; Anne-Lise Børresen-Dale; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; breast cancer; cancer gene; pathway; somatic mutation; structural alteration; sequencing; whole genome amplification; Genetics; Genetik; Medical Genetics; Medicinsk genetik;

    Abstract : Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. However, the genetic alterations that lead to breast cancer are not fully understood. This thesis aims to identify novel genes of potential mechanistic, diagnostic or therapeutic interest in breast cancers by mutational analysis and whole-genome sequencing. READ MORE

  3. 3. T-Cell Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase, a Regulator of the PDGF Signaling Pathway

    Author : Susann Karlsson; Carina Hellberg; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Bengt Hallberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PDGF; TC-PTP; receptor trafficking; PK-M2; Medical cell biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi; molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Abstract : Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) is a potent stimulator of cell growth, survival and motility. PDGF exerts its function by binding to specific tyrosine kinase receptors, initiating receptor auotphosphorylation and initiation of specific signaling pathways that regulates the cellular response. 4. 4. The Role of Hexose Transport on Glycolytic Flux and Glucose Induced Responses in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Author : Karin Elbing; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; glucose signaling; metabolic control; Snf1; glycolysis; Mig1; Hexose transport; Yeast; Saccharomyces cerevisiae;

    Abstract : In the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, glucose is primarily fermented rather than respired. Only in cultivation modes such as chemostats or fed-batches, where the external glucose is kept low, a fully respiratory catabolism is observed. READ MORE

  5. 5. Functional studies of the TDH and GPD gene-products in the glycolytic flux and glycerol metabolism of Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Author : Hadi Valadi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Growth rate; GPD; Sacchromyces cerevisiae; Glyceol; NADH; Anaerobiosis; TDH; Redox; Glycolysis;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the physiology and control of the glycolysis and glycerol metabolism in the yeast Sacchromyces cerevisiae. The study is based on the relation ship between the first two reactions around the branch-point of the upper and lower part of glycolysis and the glycerol pathway. READ MORE
