1. Geometry linking the art of building and the Universe: Geometric patterns on shells and grid shells
Abstract : Geometry links the art of building and the physics of space-time. Mathematical breakthroughs in geometry have led to new ways of designing our structures and our ability to visualise and describe the world, phenomena in nature and the universe. READ MORE

2. Millimetre wave waveguide enclosed grid frequency multipliers and imaging
Abstract : The utilisation of the THz spectrum ( 0.3-10 THz ) is hampered by fundamental difficulties in generating power at these frequencies. READ MORE

3. Converter Interfaced Distributed Generation - Grid Interconnection Issues
Abstract : Distributed generation (DG) with a converter interface to the grid is found in many of the green power resources applications. In this thesis, the control of a voltage source converter (VSC), as the DG front end, is in focus regarding the power quality problems that could appear at the connection point. READ MORE

4. Sustainability and development impacts of off-grid electrification in developing countries : An assessment of South Africa's rural electrification program
Abstract : Previous studies have shown that provision of sustainable electricity supply to rural households is essential to bring development to off-grid populations. For this reason, most developing countries put large efforts into rural electrification programs to stimulate development and reduce poverty. READ MORE

5. Design and control of a DC collection grid for a wind farm
Abstract : In this thesis, the internal DC collection grid for a wind farm is investigated regarding the design, losses and dynamic operation for both normal operating conditions and for different fault conditions. The main advantage for the DC collection grid is the considerably lower weight of the 1 kHz transformers in the DC/DC converters compared to the equivalent 50 Hz transformers. READ MORE
