  1. 1. Biomimetic Formation of Calcium Phosphate Based Nanomaterials

    Author : Wenxiao He; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; superstructure; lyotropic liquid crystal; self-assembly; Calcium phosphate; bone-like apatite; amphiphilic peptide; nanocomposite; biomimetic mineralization;

    Abstract : The intercellular material in bone is a nanocomposite of aligned “hard” inorganics—calcium phosphate (CaP) platelets embedded in the long-range ordered “soft” organic collagen matrix. This elaborate structural arrangement redeems the weaknesses of the individual components (being soft protein or brittle mineral) and gives bone its excellent mechanical properties for the protection and support of our bodies. Abstract : Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) are attracting increasing interest as devices with potentialuses in decentralized and clean electricity and heat production. Several challengeswith respect to materials have to be overcome to achieve efficiencies and life-spansthat are sufficient for long-term applications. READ MORE

  3. 3. Electronic materials : growth and characterisation

    Author : Michael A. Grishin; Ulf O. Karlsson; Massimo Sancrotti; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrophysics; Photoemission; Ultra-short laser pulse; Thin film; Laser deposition; InSb; InAs; GaSb; Ferroelectrics; Elektrofysik; Electrophysics; Elektrofysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis the InSb(111), InAs(111) and GaSb(001) surfaces have been studied by means of time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy based upon the femtosecond laser system. The pump-and-probe technique allows to analyse both electron states in the valence band and normally unpopulated electron states above the valence band, which can be occupied by transiently excited carriers at the optically pumped surface. 4. 4. Evolution of microstructure and nanoscale chemistry of Zircaloy-2-type alloys during nuclear reactor operation

    Author : Johan Eriksson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Zircaloy-2; Nuclear fuel cladding; Atom probe tomography; Zirconium alloys; Clustering; Dislocation loops; Radiation effects; Boiling water reactor;

    Abstract : Zirconium alloys are used as fuel cladding tubes in nuclear reactors. During reactor operation, these alloys are degraded by corrosion, hydrogen pickup (HPU), and radiation-induced growth, processes influenced by the alloying elements. READ MORE

  5. 5. Atom probe tomography of Zircaloy-2 exposed to boiling water reactor operation

    Author : Johan Eriksson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Nuclear fuel claddings; Zirconium alloys; Boiling water reactor; Clustering; Atom probe tomography; Radiation effects; Zircaloy-2; Dislocation loops;

    Abstract : Zirconium alloys are used as cladding tubes for the fuel in nuclear reactors. In boiling water reactors (BWRs), the alloy Zircaloy-2, which contains the alloying elements Sn, Fe, Cr, Ni, and O, is commonly used. READ MORE
