1. Numerical algorithms for high dimensional integration with application to machine learning and molecular dynamics
Abstract : This thesis contains results on high dimensional integration with two papers, paper I and paper II, presenting applications in machine learning and two papers, paper III and paper IV, presenting applications to molecular dynamics. In paper I we present algorithms based on a Metropolis test for training shallow neural networks with trigonometric activation functions. 2. Physical modelling of acoustic shallow-water communication channels
READ MORE

3. Lake Hydrodynamics and Pollution Transport under Climate Change : The Case of Lake Victoria
Abstract : A very small part of the total earth’s water is freshwater (only 2.5 %). Unfortunately, due to climate change and pervasive manmade activities, surface freshwater quality in many places of the world has become degraded. READ MORE

4. Freshwater methane and carbon dioxide fluxes : Spatio-temporal variability and an integrated assessment of lake and stream emissions in a catchment
Abstract : Freshwater bodies such as lakes and streams release the greenhouse gases methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere. Global freshwater CH4 and CO2 emissions have been estimated to be of a similar magnitude to the global land or ocean carbon sink, and are thus significant components of global carbon budgets. 5. A Child-Centred Health Dialogue for the prevention of obesity : Feasibility and evaluation of a structured model for the promotion of a healthy lifestyle in preschool children and their families in the Swedish Child Health Services
Abstract : Prevention of childhood obesity with its effects on children’s mental and physical health and well-being is an international public health priority and is suggested to be effective when started early. As Child Health Services lack an evidence-based model, there is the need for development of a low-intensive health promotion model that is feasible and cost-effective in preventing obesity in preschool children.
