  1. 1. Brominated flame retardants and perfluoroalkyl acids in Swedish indoor microenvironments : Implications for human exposure

    Author : Justina Björklund; Cynthia de Wit; Thomas Webster; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PBDEs; HBCD; PFOS; PFOA; indoor air; indoor dust; breast milk; human exposure; emission; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Humans are exposed to persistent organic pollutants (POPs) such as brominated flame retardants (BFRs, specifically polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD)) and perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs, specifically perfluoroalkane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA)). They are used in consumer products found in cars, offices, homes and day care centers. READ MORE

  2. 2. On the combustion and photolytic degradation products of some brominated flame retardants

    Author : Gunilla Söderström; Stellan Marklund; Mats Tysklind; Kees Olie; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental chemistry; PBCDD; PBCDF; PBDD; PBDF; PBDE; HBCD; TBBP-A; combustion; photolytic; MSW; Miljökemi; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Many modern products, especially electronic goods, are protected by brominated flame retardants (BFR). Some of the most common flame retardants are polybrominated diphenylethers (PBDE), tetrabromobisphenol-A (TBBP-A) and hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD). READ MORE

  3. 3. Linking exposure pathways to internal concentrations of brominated flame retardants in Swedish mothers and their toddlers

    Author : Leena Sahlström; Cynthia A. de Wit; Ulla Sellström; Urs Berger; Jochen Mueller; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; BFR; PBDE; HBCD; EBFR; human exposure; serum; feces; house dust; food; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) have been used in a variety of consumer products to enhance their fire safety. This has resulted in exposure of the environment, wildlife and humans causing risks of endocrine disruption. READ MORE

  4. 4. QSBMR Quantitative Structure Biomagnification Relationships : Studies Regarding Persistent Environmental Pollutants in the Baltic Sea Biota

    Author : Katrin Lundstedt-Enkel; Jan Örberg; Per Larsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Biomagnification; Multivariate modelling of environmental data; Transport of contaminants; Environmental toxicology; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : I have studied persistent environmental pollutants in herring (Clupea harengus), in adult guillemot (Uria aalge) and in guillemot eggs from the Baltic Sea. The studied contaminants were organochlorines (OCs); dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethanes (DDTs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), hexachlorobenzene (HCB), hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs), and brominated flame retardants (BFRs); polybrominated diphenylethers (PBDEs) and hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD). 5. 5. Determination of some polybrominated flame retardants in biota, sediment and sewage sludge

    Author : Ulla Sellström; Janneche Utne Skaare; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental Chemistry; miljökemi;

    Abstract : Brominated flame retardants (BFRs) are mainly used in different polymers, and can be released to the environment during industrial processes, during the entire life-time of the flame-retarded product and after disposal. The aim of the present study was to gain knowledge about occurrence and concentrations of some BFRs in the environment, to search for sources for these chemicals and to investigate changes in concentrations over time.
